Silva
(Introduction, problem and its background)
I’ll be discussing a project focused on promoting better skin health through technology.
Let me start with something simple but important — our skin. The skin is not just our outer layer.
It’s actually the body’s largest organ and plays a major role in protecting us from harmful
elements like UV rays, bacteria, and pollution. When our skin barrier is damaged, it can lead to
problems like inflammation, infections, and even slow healing. That’s why keeping our skin
healthy isn’t just about appearance — it’s essential for our overall well-being.
Unfortunately, skin problems are common and affect people of all ages — from acne and eczema
to more serious conditions like psoriasis. These conditions don’t just cause discomfort. They also
affect confidence, cause anxiety, and can lower a person’s self-esteem. The bigger issue is that
many people don’t seek help right away, either due to lack of access to specialists or because
they rely on the internet and social media for advice.
But here’s the problem — online information about skin care isn’t always accurate or safe.
Without professional guidance, people might follow misleading or harmful advice, which can
worsen their condition.
That’s where modern technology steps in. With the growth of artificial intelligence and mobile
technology, we now have the chance to make skin evaluation tools more accessible. Using just a
smartphone and a camera, AI can be trained to recognize common skin issues through images
and user input, like symptoms and skin type.
Our project builds on this idea. We aim to create a mobile-based solution that allows people to
check their skin condition and get reliable, personalized guidance — especially helpful for those
who may not have easy access to a dermatologist. It's not meant to replace professional
diagnosis, but it can help users take early action about their skin condition.
To simplify,
this can reduce misdiagnosis, encourage early detection, and empower people to make smarter
choices about their skin health — safely and confidently.
First, a lot of people suffer from skin diseases every year. However, many of them struggle to get
proper diagnosis or treatment. Why? There are a few major reasons:
As a result, many people turn to the internet or social media to check their symptoms. Although
it's easy and convenient, this can often be risky. The advice found online is not always accurate or
reliable. It can lead to wrong diagnosis, wrong treatments, and sometimes even worsen the
condition.
Given all of this, we can see the need for a simple, affordable, and expert-informed solution. One
that gives people credible, accurate, and personal advice—especially for those who can’t easily
reach a specialist.
Thanks to advances in AI and mobile technology, we can now create tools that help detect skin
conditions and offer trusted guidance using just a photo and some basic info.
This is the real-world problem that our study addresses. It's not just about technology—it's about
making healthcare more accessible, especially for people who need it most.
Leuterio
(“Thank you, Mr. Silva. Now let’s summarize the core research problem we are addressing.
This study addresses a real and growing problem—many people experience skin issues such as
acne, eczema, and rashes but lack immediate access to proper care. These conditions can impact
not only physical appearance but also self-esteem and mental well-being. Often, they are ignored
until they worsen, mainly due to the lack of fast and affordable options for early assessment. In
this study, we explored how artificial intelligence can help detect common skin conditions by
analyzing a simple photo. While some digital tools already exist, most fall short in terms of
accuracy, accessibility, and personalized advice. They often fail to guide users on what to do
next—whether to seek medical help or try basic home remedies. Our project aims to bridge these
gaps by providing a smarter, more accurate, and user-friendly solution. It empowers users with
timely information and clear guidance, helping them take early action—even before visiting a
healthcare professional.
"Skin problems such as acne, eczema, and rashes affect millions of people daily. These conditions can harm not just physical
appearance but also self-esteem and mental health. However, many individuals don’t have access to quick and affordable
dermatological care. This raises the question: can artificial intelligence accurately detect these skin issues through images? While AI
in dermatology is growing, many current tools still lack reliability, especially in diverse skin tones or under poor lighting. Existing apps
also have limitations—they may misclassify conditions, offer vague advice, or lack personalization. This is where our project comes
in. We aim to improve real-time skin issue detection using a more advanced AI model trained on diverse datasets. Finally, one key
concern is: will users actually follow the app’s advice? Our design focuses on providing clear, helpful, and understandable
recommendations to encourage proactive skin care decisions.")
Next, let’s explore what this study intends to achieve. Let me turn you over to Mr. Herance, who
will share the next topic information.
Herance
(“Thank you, Ms. Leuterio. Now I’ll be discussing the next part of our topic .
Our project aims to develop a reliable AI-powered mobile app that can identify common skin
conditions like acne and eczema using image recognition. It began with research on the
most prevalent skin issues and an analysis of existing dermatology apps to understand
their strengths and weaknesses. From there, we developed our app with a focus on
accuracy, user-friendliness, and personalized results. Its performance was tested using
trusted image datasets and gathered feedback from users to improve the overall
experience.
For people with skin concerns, our project offers a practical, affordable way to self-assess their
condition and gain insights early. For dermatologists and skincare practitioners, it can help with
pre-screening and guiding patients before actual consultations. The healthcare sector can also
benefit by easing the burden on facilities and expanding remote care options. For technology
developers, our project opens possibilities for more inclusive and intelligent health apps.
Academics and researchers can use our findings to further explore AI in healthcare behavior and
2
ethics. And public health agencies can utilize such tools for early surveillance, education, and
broader awareness campaigns.
Now, I turn you back to Ms. Leuterio who will walk us through the next topic.
Leuterio
(“ Thank you Mr. Herance, now let me discuss the next part to better understand what projects are
designed to accomplish.”
In this part of the study, we explored how the proposed solution responds to a range of user
needs while remaining focused and practical in its development and implementation. The system
is trained to recognize five common skin concerns that are frequently experienced across
different age groups and skin types. To ensure precision, a rich dataset of dermatological images
was used, which helped improve accuracy in detection through continuous learning. In addition to
visual analysis, user information such as age, symptoms, and skin type is factored in—this
enables the system to generate personalized guidance based on context, not just the image alone.
The functionality and reliability of the tool were benchmarked against similar platforms to evaluate
its performance. This helped us understand its strengths and areas for improvement. Importantly,
the study focuses exclusively on mobile use, especially for Android users, as this is more
accessible to a broader population. Desktop versions or other operating systems were not
included in the limitations. Lastly, we made it a point to prioritize feedback from users in
underserved or rural communities—where traditional healthcare access is often delayed or
unavailable. Their input was essential in tailoring the system to real-world constraints.” )
3
(“ While our project offers many capabilities, it’s also important to acknowledge its limitations and
boundaries. So let me clarify to you the limitations in our project.
This app is not a substitute for formal medical diagnosis or professional consultation. It serves as
a supportive, self-assessment resource that encourages timely action—but cannot replace clinical
judgment. Also, it only recognizes a predefined list of skin conditions. Uncommon, systemic, or
complex dermatological disorders are not within its recognition capacity at this stage. The study
did not include live consultations or formal clinical trials, which means direct involvement of
licensed specialists was beyond the research limits. Factors like poor lighting, blurry images, or
low-quality cameras may affect the results. These are user-dependent and may compromise
detection accuracy. In terms of device compatibility, the system works solely on Android
smartphones. iOS users or desktop interfaces are not supported in the current build. Finally, while
we addressed ethical issues like data privacy and model bias, these concerns are part of an
evolving conversation. Continued updates and oversight will be required as technology and
public expectations shift.” )

Possible Questions:
mikrobyo, at polusyon.
2. What motivated your team to choose dermatological conditions over other health concerns?
Answer (English):
We were motivated by the fact that many people, especially in remote areas, lack access to
dermatologists. Skin issues are among the most common global health problems but are often ignored.
The prevalence of misinformation on social media and the absence of professional guidance highlight the
need for accessible and reliable dermatological tools.

in all areas, our app acts as a first line of assessment, helping users decide whether to seek professional
care based on initial findings.
7. How do you justify the use of AI in skin condition detection given the risk of misdiagnosis?
Answer (English):
We acknowledge that AI cannot replace professional diagnosis. However, it can complement it by acting
as a preliminary tool for self-assessment. Our model is trained on a diverse dataset and validated through
benchmarking to reduce the risk of false results.
8. How do you ensure the AI doesn’t reinforce misinformation like social media platforms
sometimes do?
7
Answer (English):
Unlike social media, our system is based on curated datasets and medically reviewed information. It
avoids anecdotal content and instead uses image analysis and verified user inputs to give credible
suggestions.
9. What evidence shows the need for personalized advice rather than generic skin care tips?
Answer (English):
Generic advice often ignores individual differences like skin type, age, or symptoms. Our application
integrates user-specific data to deliver tailored suggestions, which increases accuracy and user
relevance.
10. How did you determine which skin conditions to focus on in your AI training?
Answer (English):
We selected the five most common skin conditions—acne, eczema, psoriasis, fungal infections, and
dermatitis—based on global prevalence, clinical significance, and availability of image datasets. These
are also commonly self-diagnosed and often mistreated due to lack of professional access.
11. How do you plan to evaluate the effectiveness of the app’s recommendations?
Answer (English):
We will compare the app’s assessments to peer-reviewed dermatological standards and expert-reviewed
cases. In addition, we will gather user feedback on accuracy, ease of use, and satisfaction to further
refine the recommendation system.
12. What metrics are you using to assess the app’s accuracy and user satisfaction?

We use diagnostic accuracy, true-positive/false-negative rates, user testing, and usability scores.
Surveys are also conducted to assess satisfaction and trust in the app’s recommendations.
13. How can your app help dermatologists without replacing them?
Answer (English):
The app serves as a triage tool. It helps identify which cases may require urgent attention, enabling
dermatologists to focus on more complex cases. It enhances patient preparation and education before
professional consultation.
14. Why is your study particularly relevant for rural or underserved communities?
Answer (English):
These communities often lack dermatology clinics. Our app gives them a way to self-assess and access
credible skin advice using just a mobile phone. This reduces the barrier to early diagnosis and care.

(Tagalog):
Maaari ring
idagdag ang real-time consultation at voice input.
20. How do you plan to deal with image quality and lighting inconsistencies in user-submitted
photos?
Answer (English):
We include image capture guidelines within the app and apply preprocessing filters to normalize lighting
and improve accuracy. User education also plays a key role in quality image submission.
larawan.
21. How do you address ethical concerns such as user data privacy or algorithmic bias?
Answer (English):
We implement strict data privacy measures, anonymize user input, and obtain consent. To reduce bias,
we use diverse datasets representing different skin tones and age groups. Ongoing improvements are
part of the plan.
22. Why does the app not support real-time consultations with dermatologists?
Answer (English):
Our study focuses on AI-driven self-assessment, not real-time medical consultation. Adding live
dermatologist support requires different infrastructure and is suggested for future versions or integrations.
23. What challenges did you face with AI training data diversity?
Answer (English):
One challenge was the underrepresentation of certain skin tones and conditions in public datasets. We
addressed this by carefully selecting diverse sources and validating results across multiple demographic
groups.
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
24. Can you walk us through your conceptual framework and explain how the
input-process-output model works?
Answer (English):
Our input includes user images, skin profile data (age, skin type, symptoms), and datasets of
dermatological images. These are processed through our AI model using computer vision and machine
learning techniques. The output is a reliable skin condition assessment with personalized advice, helping
users make informed skin health decisions.
11
25. Why did you include user information such as age and skin type? How does that affect
results?
Answer (English):
Skin conditions often vary depending on age, skin tone, and type. By collecting these, we increase
diagnostic accuracy and personalize advice. For instance, acne is more common in teens, while rosacea
appears more in adults.
26. What steps were taken to make the app user-friendly and inclusive during development?
Answer (English):
We conducted usability testing, especially with people from underserved areas. We simplified the
interface, used icons for navigation, and designed it for low-spec Android phones. Instructions are visual
and easy to understand.
(Tagalog):
Madali
ring sundan ang mga instruksyon.
27. What role does continuous refinement play in the development cycle?
Answer (English):
Refinement is critical. AI models improve over time with more data. User feedback also informs us about
what features to improve, what bugs to fix, and how to adjust our algorithm for better accuracy and user
satisfaction.
(Tagalog):
Mahalaga ang tuloy-tuloy na refinement. Habang nadadagdagan ang data, lalong gumagaling ang AI
model.
28. How did you validate or test each stage of your conceptual framework?
Answer (English):
We used prototyping and iterative testing. Each stage—data collection, AI training, interface design, and
user feedback—was evaluated using benchmarking, expert review, and field testing to ensure
functionality and usability.
GENERAL :
12
29. What are the main limitations of your project, and how do you plan to address them in the
future?
Answer (English):
The app doesn’t replace medical diagnosis and only detects five conditions. Accuracy depends on image
quality and lighting. In the future, we plan to add more conditions, expand to iOS, and partner with
dermatologists for clinical validation.
30. What differentiates your application from existing AI-based dermatology tools like First Derm
or SkinVision?
Answer (English):
Unlike existing apps, ours integrates both AI image analysis and personalized inputs (age, skin type,
symptoms). We also prioritize rural usability and affordability, especially for Android users, with an
interface designed for underserved populations.
31. How scalable is your solution for wider use or commercial deployment?
Answer (English):
Our system is designed to be scalable. The AI model can be updated with more data, and the app can be
adapted for other platforms or languages. With funding and partnerships, it can be launched commercially
or as a public health tool.
health tool o commercial app.
32. If given more time and resources, how would you improve the system?
Answer (English):
We would add real-time dermatologist chat features, expand the database to include rare conditions, and
improve accessibility features like voice input and regional languages. We would also conduct clinical
trials for validation.
wika. Magkakaroon din ng clinical trials.
13
33. How do you plan to ensure your AI system maintains high diagnostic accuracy over time?
Answer (English):
We plan to regularly update the model with new and diverse datasets. Continuous learning and feedback
loops from real users will help fine-tune the algorithm. Periodic evaluations against medical standards will
also be conducted.

kappa coefficient measures reaching as high as 0.84. It was also reported strong agreement with the
histopathological assessment, which kappa statistic approached is 0.77. The beneficial results reported

MobileNet CNN model deployed on Android. Through transfer learning and data augmentation over 3,406
images covering seven conditions, their system achieved up to 94.4 % accuracy . This underscores the
potential of compact CNN models running effectively on mobile devices, reinforcing DermAware+’s
CNN-based image analysis and lesion metadata for skin cancer detection. Leveraging Deep Neural
Networks and data balancing techniques, the app achieved a balanced accuracy of 85% and recall of 96%.
This highlights the effectiveness of combining image and metadata processing—informing DermAware+’s
Wu, Zeng, Wang et al. (2022) introduced Federated Contrastive Learning (FCL) for dermatological
diagnosis on-device, which enables model training across distributed user data while preserving privacy.
Their results showed improved recall and precision compared to standard methods. This aligns with
DermAware+’s goals of privacy preservation and potential future enhancements involving federated
learning.
