01 a) With diagram explain encapsulation and decapsulation. 4 2 1 1 1


b) Four channels, two with a bit rate of 300 kbps and two with a bit rate of 150 kbps
are to be multiplexed using multiple- slot TDM with no synchronization bits.
Obtain i) Size of a frame in bits ii) Frame rate iii) Duration of a frame

c) With example prove that send window size for Go-Back-N ARQ must be less than
2m and selective repeat ARQ send and receive window size must be at most

d)Design a bidirectional algorithm for the stop and wait protocol ARQ using piggy

b) With diagram explain mesh and star topology along with its advantages and

c) Station A needs to send a message consisting of 9 packets to station B using a
sliding window (Window size 3) and go-back-N strategy. All packets are ready
and immediately available for transmission. If every 5 th packet that A transmits
gets lost (but no ACKs from B ever get lost), then what is the number of packets
that A will transmit for sending the message to B? Justify the answer. 5 3 1 2 1
d) Explain Byte stuffing and Byte-stuff the data in following figure and recover the data.

03 a) Show the generation of the CRC codeword at the sender site, for the following data:

04 a) Explain the vulnerable time for CSAM / CD protocol and describe with relevant

b) A slotted ALOHA network transmits 2000 bit frame using shared channel with
200 kbps bandwidth. Find the through put if the slm produces i) 1000 frames per
second ii) 500 frames per second iii) 250 frames per second. 6 3 2 2 1

05 a) Consider following network, determine the
shortest path tree assuming that the root node
is Node H? Show working with node labels as
required using Dijkstra Shortest Path
algorithm.

c)The following is a dump of a TCP header in hexadecimal format; Find values in

b) A datagram 8000 bytes arrives to a router and this datagram must be forwarded to
a link with a MTU of 1500 bytes. Original datagram is stamped with an
identification number 444. Obtain the detail information of fragmented datagram.

a) Station A is transmitting to Station B and Station C has some data to send
to Station D.
b) Station B is transmitting to Station A and Station C has some data to send
to Station A.

1) Case (a) identify the type of problem stations are facing, if CTS frame
handshake is used write flow diagram.
2) Case (a) Assume if a station E is present near Station D and Station D has
some data to send to E use CTS frame handshake and write the flow diagram.

b) Use IEEE802.11 addressing mechanism to derive addresses and explain the
process of arriving addresses for the following network.

1) When To DS and From DS is 0 in BSS-1 (A is sender) and BSS-2(D is sender)


2) When To DS=0 and From DS is 1 in BSS-1 (B is receiver) and BSS-2(C is
receiver)
3) When To DS = 1 and From DS is 0 in BSS-1 (B sender) and BSS-2(C is
sender.)
