Simple Present Tense: Superpower of Everyday Actions!

What is the Simple Present Tense?

It’s the tense we use when we talk about things that:

• Happen all the time (habits)


• Are always true (facts)
• Are in a timetable or schedule

When Do We Use It?

Habitual Actions "I brush my teeth twice a day!"

General Truths "The sun rises in the east."

Scheduled Events "The bus arrives at 7 o'clock."

Signal Words to Spot It

Look out for these clues!

• Always
• Usually
• Often
• Sometimes
• Never
• Every day/week/month

How to Build Sentences

1️⃣ Positive Sentences

I/We/You/They + base verb


"They play football."

He/She/It + base verb + s


"She plays football."

2️⃣ Negative Sentences

I/We/You/They + don’t + base verb


"They don’t play football."

He/She/It + doesn’t + base verb


"She doesn’t play football."
3️⃣ Questions – Let’s Get Curious!

We use Do or Does to ask questions in the simple present tense.


And if we want more info, we can add question words like:
What, Where, When, Why, Who, How

Basic Yes/No Questions

Do + I/We/You/They + base verb?


"Do they play football?"

Does + He/She/It + base verb?

Questions with Question Words

What + do/does + subject + base verb?
