Science Lesson: Energy

1. Introduction
Hello everyone!
Today, we will learn about Energy. Energy is the ability to do work. Without energy, nothing
can move, change, or grow. Energy is all around us — in the food we eat, the light we see,
and the electricity we use every day.

2. Key Vocabulary
- Energy – the power to do work.
- Kinetic energy – energy of moving objects.
- Potential energy – stored energy.
- Renewable energy – energy that comes from natural sources and can be replaced.
- Non-renewable energy – energy from resources that cannot be replaced quickly.

3. Forms of Energy
1. Kinetic Energy – movement.
Example: a moving car, flowing water, a thrown ball.

2. Potential Energy – stored energy.

Example: a stretched rubber band, water behind a dam.

3. Other forms:
- Light energy (from the Sun, bulbs)
- Thermal energy (heat)
- Chemical energy (food, fuel, batteries)
- Electrical energy (used in homes and machines)

4. Renewable vs Non-Renewable Energy

Renewable Energy:
- Sunlight (solar power)
- Wind (wind turbines)
- Water (hydropower)
- Geothermal (heat from the Earth)
- Biomass (plants, organic waste)

Non-Renewable Energy:
- Coal
- Oil
- Natural Gas
- Nuclear energy (uranium)

Renewable energy is better for the environment, while non-renewable sources cause
pollution and will run out one day.

5. Importance of Energy
- Powers our homes, schools, and hospitals.
- Allows transportation (cars, trains, planes).
- Helps plants grow through sunlight (photosynthesis).
- Runs machines and technology.

6. Real-Life Examples
- Eating food gives us chemical energy to move.
- Solar panels use sunlight to produce electricity.
- A waterfall generates hydropower.

7. Practice Exercises
1. Define: kinetic energy and potential energy.
2. Give 2 examples of renewable energy and 2 examples of non-renewable energy.
3. Why is renewable energy important for the future?
4. True or False: Oil and coal are renewable sources.

8. Summary
- Energy = the ability to do work.
- Two main types: kinetic (movement) and potential (stored).
- Many forms: light, heat, chemical, electrical.
- Renewable energy is sustainable and clean, while non-renewable energy will run out.
