Fluid Pressure Force Calculations

The document provides calculations for the total force on various walls due to fluid pressure, including specific figures and resultant forces for each case. It details the magnitude and location of the center of pressure for multiple scenarios involving static fluids. Additionally, it includes general notes for computing forces on curved surfaces and adjustments for air pressure above the fluid.

Chapter 2 Tutorial

If the wall shown in figure 1 below is 4 m long, calculate the total force on the wall due
to oil pressure. Also determine the location of the centre of pressure and show the
resultant force on the wall. [FR=46.8 kN, dp=0.933 m
vertical depth to the centre of pressure. lp=1.32 m]

2 For each of the cases shown in figure 2 through figure 5 compute the magnitude of the
resultant force on the indicated area and the location of the centre of pressure.

3 General note for problems of figure 6 to 10.
For each problem, one curved surface is shown restraining a body of static fluid.
Compute the magnitude of the horizontal component of the force, and compute the
vertical component of the force exerted by the fluid on that surface. Then, compute the
magnitude of the resultant force and its direction. In each case the surface of interest is a
portion of a cylinder with the length of the surface given on the problem statement.

on the vertical wall. The tank is 1.2 m long. [[FR=11.97 kN,. lp=1.00 mm]
