🐸 Frog Dissection Worksheet

🔍 Objective:

To explore and identify the external and internal anatomy of a frog in order to
understand vertebrate organ systems and body structure.

🧰 Materials:

 Preserved frog (bullfrogs)


 Dissection tray
 Scissors
 Forceps (tweezers)
 Scalpel (small knife)
 Dissection pins
 Gloves
 Goggles
 Lab coat or apron
 Worksheet or notebook

🧭 Directions:

🟢 Step 1: Look at the Outside (External)

1. Place the frog on its belly (dorsal side up).


2. Look at the eyes, ears (tympanum), legs, and toes.
3. Flip it over and find the mouth and belly (ventral side).
4. Measure the frog’s length from head to tail.
🔵 Step 2: Look Inside (Internal)

1. Put the frog on its back and pin its legs down.
2. Carefully cut up the belly with scissors. Start at the bottom and go up.
3. Peel back the skin and muscles. Pin them open.
4. Look inside and find the organs:
o Heart
o Lungs
o Liver
o Stomach
o Intestines
o Kidneys
o Fat bodies
o Reproductive organs (testes or ovaries)
