APPLICATION SOFTWARE

Application software is a type of computer software designed to help users perform specific tasks or
functions such as writing documents, calculations, editing images, or browsing the internet.

DEFINITION:
Application software is a program or group of programs designed for end-users to perform specific
tasks.

CHARACTERISTICS:
- User-oriented
- Task-specific
- Easy to use
- Developed in high-level languages
- Requires system software to run
- Can be standalone or bundled

TYPES OF APPLICATION SOFTWARE:


1. General-Purpose Software: MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint
2. Special-Purpose Software: Railway reservation system, Tally
3. Customized Software: Inventory or billing systems
4. Open-Source Software: LibreOffice, GIMP, VLC
5. Freeware: Google Chrome, Adobe Reader

RELATIONSHIP WITH SYSTEM SOFTWARE:

tasks (MS Word, WhatsApp). Application software cannot function without system software.
