Centralized Traffic Management System Using A.

Urban areas are experiencing unprecedented traffic congestion, mainly due to outdated infrastructure,
and manual monitoring systems. This report proposes a solution leveraging existing AI cameras and
surveillance feeds to create a centralized, intelligent traffic management system that dynamically
adapts to real-time conditions

Problem Overview

1. Underutilized AI Cameras: Many AI-enabled cameras currently installed across the city are
underused despite their potential for real-time traffic analysis.

2. Isolated Surveillance Feeds: Junction surveillance cameras primarily record or manually

monitor traffic violations without contributing to automated traffic control.

3. Obsolete Signal Systems: Existing signal systems are often out of sync, leading to frequent
manual intervention by traffic police.

Proposed Solution: Centralized AI-Based Traffic Management

The proposed solution aims to utilize the existing camera network to provide live video feeds to a
centralized server. This server processes real-time traffic conditions using artificial intelligence to
manage signal timings, predict congestion, and automatically create traffic deviations. The system
integrates multiple modules, each responsible for specific tasks.

1. Video Feed Collection

Surveillance cameras send live video footage of traffic to a central system. This system uses special
software to quickly analyse the videos and track things like cars on the road and how busy the streets
are.

2. AI Traffic Analysis
The system uses artificial intelligence (AI) to look at the footage and figure out important details, like
how many cars are on the road, how fast they’re moving, and which lanes are most crowded. It can
even spot traffic jams and estimate delays.
3. Decision-Making
When the system detects a traffic jam, it uses smart algorithms to find alternate routes. The system
looks at how busy each road is and suggests the best way to avoid the congestion, guiding drivers to
less crowded streets.

4. Adjusting Traffic Signals

Once the system knows the best routes, it automatically sends instructions to traffic lights and digital
signs. This adjusts the green and red light timing to keep traffic moving smoothly, and updates signs
to inform drivers of new routes—without needing a person to intervene.

5. Learning from the Data

The system remembers past traffic patterns, weather conditions, and any events that might have
caused delays. By analysing this information, it gets better over time, predicting future traffic and
making smarter decisions.

Example Implementation
Suppose Junction A experiences heavy traffic. The AI system detects the issue by analysing vehicle
density and flow rate. It checks nearby Junctions B and C and finds that B is less congested. The
system then:

Extends the red light at Junction A to prevent

additional inflow

Extends the green light duration at Junction B

to diverted traffic.

Updates roadside digital signs to guide vehicles

through Route B.

Alerts traffic police via dashboard for possible

override.

This cycle repeats continuously, ensuring adaptive traffic flow across the city.

Key Benefits
1. Maximizes use of existing hardware and infrastructure.

2. Reduces manual intervention and traffic police workload.

3. Enhances traffic efficiency.

4. Provides real-time monitoring and actionable insights.

5. Enables future scalability with integration to navigation systems.

Conclusion
The proposed AI-based centralized traffic management system offers a cost-effective and scalable
solution to urban traffic challenges, by repurposing existing infrastructure and applying intelligent
algorithms, it can dynamically regulate traffic, reduce congestion, and improve commuter experience.
With continued development and integration, this system could form the foundation for a fully
automated smart city traffic network
