Workplace process in quality department at Alfagomma

1. Quality planning – set goals based on MBO targets

To establish clear quality goals & objectives that organization aims to
meet, often aligned with customer expectations.

Example: To reduce customer complaints by 15% in the next fiscal

year.
Reduce internal and external PPM (Parts per million)
Target internal PPM = 2500 PPM
Target external PPM = 100 PPM

2. Quality assurance and control – monitor and control

QC uses operational techniques and activities to verify that a product
meets quality requirements. It is concerned with detecting defects and
taking corrective action.

Example: Incoming inspection checks incoming materials to ensure they

meet established quality specifications. In-process inspection, quality
inspectors conduct checks at critical stages (e.g., monitoring the
temperature of a heating element, verifying the correct dimensions of a
component) to ensure production follows the specification and catch issues
early. For final inspection, quality technician inspects finished products
undergo a final quality control process to ensure they are free of defects and
meet performance requirements. (e.g, burst test, ozone test, proof test)

3. Continuous improvement
Use all collected data and feedback to drive ongoing improvement in
processes. All inspection and test data are collected, analyzed to
identify trends or recurring problems, and reported to management to
inform decisions on process adjustments or improvements.

Example: Regular check-ins

-established a system for regular monitoring of progress towards objectives

using key performance indicators (KPIs)

- In quality use PDCA cycle to improve quality, reduce defects.

Example: Branding improvement using scanning system at Cover Extrusion.
To reduce risk of wrong branding. Corrective action – implement a scanning
system that auto detect branding specification.

4. Implement corrective actions

If a batch of products fails to meet quality standards, the team initiates
a corrective action process, such as repairing defects, discarding faulty
units, or modifying the production process.

Example: QC found mandrel dented issue for size DN25 and DN12 after
extraction. Root cause is eccentric mandrel. Corrective action:
Implement eccentricity checking at mandrel extruder process.

5. Quality Audits & reporting

Regularly scheduled internal and external audits are conducted to
verify that processes are being followed and that the Quality
Management System (QMS) is effective.

Example: An internal auditor reviews the assembly line's documentation and

observes the process to confirm it follows the standard operating procedures.
Goals: to achieve ISO 19001 standard.
