2
Transition and Diffusion Capacitance
• Every Electronic device is frequency
sensitive.
• In diode, the stray capacitance
(transition and diffusion capacitance)
effect its operation, especially, at high
frequencies of applied voltage.
• Two types of stray capacitance in
diode: Transition and Diffusion
• Transition capacitance has
predominant effect in reverse-bias
region, and the Diffusion capacitance
has predominant effect in forward-bias
region.
3
Reverse Recovery Time
• The time it takes for diode to go from
conducting to non-conducting state when
switches from forward biased state to reverse
bias.

Diode

Light Emitting Diodes
• Gives off visible or invisible light when energized.
• High bandgap energy, which results in emission of
light due to recombination process within diode.
• The emitted energy equal to the bandgap energy
is given by

• where h is Planck’s constant = 6.626 x 10-34 J.s

and c is the speed of light = 3 x 108 m/s.
9
LED
• High wavelength in the range of around 630 nm
results in Red LEDs, whereas, low wavelengths in
the range of around 470 nm results in Blue color
LEDs.
