GENERAL LEDGER CARD
I. Prerequisites
Be a baptized member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
2. To have a written recommendation from the local church board, stating that the candidate is
in regular situation.
3. Be at least 16 years old when starting the Senior Guides Leadership Course and at least
18 years old upon completing the requirements.
4. Be an active member of the staff in a Pathfinders or Adventurers club.
5. Having a certificate of completion of theBasic Training Course for Staffy
having participated for a minimum of one year in one of the following ministries:
Adventurers' Ministry
b. Ministry of Conquerors
Additional prerequisite notes:
The Major Guide curriculum must be completed in a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 3 years.
2. Completing the curriculum is under the supervision of the Director of Youth, Conquerors.
Adventurers or designated representative of Major Guides of the local Association.
II. Spiritual Development
Read or listen to the bookThe Way to Christ and provide a one-page summary, focusing on
in the benefits of its reading.
2. Complete Series #1,«Christ the Way», from the devotional guide Encounter, or complete another
annual Bible reading plan that covers the four gospels.
3. Read the Desire of All Nations.
4. Do one of the following:
a. Keep a devotional journal for at least 4 weeks, summarizing what you learned in
his devotional time and describing how he is growing in his faith.
b. Complete the curriculum of Steps to Discipleship Personal Spirituality
Steps to Discipleship (only available in English).
5. To be involved in one or more evangelistic or community outreach programs.
6. Prepare a bullet point page with a summary of each of the28 Beliefs
Fundamentals.
7. Develop and present 4 of the following beliefs, using creative means if it is
possible

8. Increase your knowledge of the Heritage of the Church by completing the following:

i.«The History of the Conquistadors» by Roberto Holbrook.

First 50 Years by Guillermo Oliver with Patricia Humphrey (available in English only).
Another book that is approved by the Director of Youth, Conquerors, Adventurers or
designated representative of Senior Guides of the local Association.
c. Read a book about the heritage of the church such as:
i.«A Brief History of the Seventh-day Adventists» by Jorge Knight.
ii. «Tell the World» by Mervyn Maxwell.
iii.«Bearers of Light» by Ricardo W. Schwarz and Floyd Greenleaf.
iv.«The Church's Inheritance Manual» produced by the Youth Department of the
General Association.
Another book approved by the Director of Youth, Conquistadors, Adventurers or
designated representative of Senior Guides of the local Association.
9. Complete a research report of at least 2 pages on a program ofanalysis of
temperamentsand complete the affiliated inventory of temperaments.
III. Development of Skills
1. Attend and complete a seminar on each of the following 12 topics:
a. Leadership
i. How to Be a Christian Leader
Vision
iii. Risk Minimization for Adventurers and Conquerors
iv. Discipline
b. Communication
i. Communication Theory, Listening Skills
ii. Practical Communication Practices
iii. Understanding Teaching and Learning Styles
c. Creativity and Resources
i. How to Prepare Creative and Effective Worship Services
ii. Understanding and Using Creativity
d. Children's Evangelism
i. Principles of Children's and Youth Evangelism
ii. How to Lead a Child to Christ
iii. Understanding Your Spiritual Gifts
2. To have or develop the following specialties:

3. Develop 2 additional specialties or awards of your choice, that you have not obtained.

5. Supervise the participants through the Adventurers curriculum or levels of
Conquerors, or teaching a Sabbath school class for at least one year for children of
ages 6 to 15.
IV. Child Development

3. Attend 3 seminars on child development or educational theory related to their age.

V. Leadership Development
1. Read a current book of your choice on the general category of 'Skill Development'
of Leadership”. Here are some suggestions:

b.«Take the risk» by Ben Carson
c. «The Leader and Leadership According to Ellen G. White» by Cindy Tutsch
d. "Help! I’m Being Followed" (only available in English)
Clinton A. Valley
e. Another book that is approved by the Director of Youth, Conquerors, Adventurers or
designated representative of Senior Guides of the local Association.
2. Demonstrate your leadership skills by doing the following:
a. Develop and conduct 3 creative services for children and/or adolescents.
b. Participate in a leadership role in the children's/youth groups of your local church in a
event sponsored by the Association.
c. Teach 3 specialties ofAdventurersor 2 specialties ofConquerors.
d. Assist in the planning and direction of an outdoor trip with the Adventurers,
Conquistadors or with the Sabbath School for children aged 6 to 15.
e. Be an active member of the board of Adventurers, Conquistadors, or School
Sabbatical for at least a year and attend 75% of the staff meetings.
3. Write down goals you would like to achieve in your ministry.

VI. Development of a Healthy Lifestyle
1. Participate in a personal physical health program by completing one of the following:
a. The physical components of theSilver Medal JA. If you already have the Silver JA Medal,
then complete the physical components of theGold Medal JA.
b. A school physical fitness program.
c. A personal fitness program based on a fitness book of your choice or
an exercise program in consultation with your Major Guide supervisor or authorized instructor.
VII. Documentation
1. Compile a folder documenting all the work related to completing the curriculum of
Major Guide.
Notes
Each seminar must last at least 90 minutes. Every instructor must be approved by the
Youth Director of the Association or the pastor of the church.
2. It would be beneficial for a Master Guide candidate to know both ministries, Adventurers.
and Conquistadors.
3. Suggestions for topics and questions can be found in the Major Guide Manual.
