PHYS 3203
Tutorial # 1
1. Find the number of pins required for addressing and the address range in binary format for a
memory with following M words storage:
(i) 64 (ii) 1K (iii) 1M
Also express the address range in hexadecimal and octal format.
2. Determine the maximum rate (words/sec) at which data can be accessed from a memory with
access time 300ns and cycle time 580ns.
3. Find the number of 1024 x 4 bit static RAM (Intel 2142) and other ICs required to obtain
followings:
(i) 4096 x 4 bit RAM
(ii) 1024 x 8 bit RAM
(ii) 16K bytes of RAM
4. Design a 4 × 3 bit random access memory (RAM) having binary cells comprising flip-flops
and gates.
5. Explain structure and operation of charge coupled devices (CCDs). Write down some applications
of CCDs.
