Dear Principal,

I am writing to share my perspective on the potential ban on mobile phones in school. Having considered
both viewpoints, I believe that while mobile phones can be a source of distraction, their benefits outweigh
the drawbacks when used responsibly.

One of the strongest arguments for allowing mobile phones is the issue of safety. Students can quickly
contact their parents in case of an emergency, providing reassurance to both students and parents. In
today’s world, where unexpected situations can arise, having a means of communication is essential.
Additionally, mobile phones assist in research, making it easier for students to access information efficiently,
thereby saving time and enhancing learning. Many students also use their phones for organisation, setting
reminders for assignments and tracking their schedules, which fosters a sense of responsibility and time
management.

Furthermore, mobile phones enable students to explore creative pursuits such as photography and
videography. Capturing moments at school fosters engagement and can be an outlet for students interested
in digital media. Encouraging responsible phone use could also help students develop self-discipline and
awareness of appropriate usage in professional and academic settings.

On the other hand, concerns about distraction are valid. Excessive phone use can divert students' attention
from lessons, reducing productivity and participation. Moreover, reliance on mobile devices for information
may limit creativity, as students might be tempted to use ready-made ideas rather than develop their own.
Additionally, phones can be expensive, and not all students can afford the latest models, which may lead to
feelings of envy or social pressure.

However, rather than an outright ban, a more balanced approach could be considered. Implementing strict
regulations on phone usage during lessons while allowing their use during designated times—such as
breaks—could address these concerns. Schools could also educate students on digital responsibility to
mitigate issues of addiction and misuse.

In conclusion, while mobile phones can be misused, their advantages in safety, education, and organisation
are significant. A structured policy rather than a complete ban would allow students to benefit from
technology while maintaining focus in class.
