Animals and Their Food Groups

Animals can be grouped based on the type of food they eat.

1. Herbivores 🌿

 Definition: Animals that eat only plants.

 Examples: Cow, goat, carabao, rabbit, horse.

 Special Features:

o Have flat, broad teeth for grinding leaves and grass.

o Usually have strong stomachs to digest tough plant material.

2. Carnivores 🦁

 Definition: Animals that eat other animals (meat-eaters).

 Examples: Lion, tiger, eagle, snake, shark.

 Special Features:

o Sharp teeth and claws for tearing flesh.

o Strong sense of sight or smell to hunt prey.

3. Omnivores 🍖🌿

 Definition: Animals that eat both plants and animals.

 Examples: Human, pig, bear, chicken, dog.

 Special Features:

o Have both sharp and flat teeth to eat meat and plants.

o Can easily adapt to different food sources.

4. Decomposers 🍄🪱

 Definition: Organisms that feed on dead plants and animals, helping

recycle nutrients back to the soil.

 Examples: Earthworm, fungi, bacteria.

 Importance: Keep the environment clean and maintain balance in
nature.

✅ Summary:

 Herbivores → Plant-eaters

 Carnivores → Meat-eaters

 Omnivores → Both plant & meat eaters

 Decomposers → Feed on dead matter

2. The Life Cycles of Plants and Animals

🔑 Key Idea

The life cycle is the series of stages that living things go through from birth
(or germination) to growth, reproduction, and eventually death.
👉 Life cycles help plants and animals survive and reproduce, ensuring that
life continues.

🌱 Life Cycle of Plants

1. Seed – A plant begins its life as a seed.

2. Germination – The seed sprouts and starts to grow.

3. Seedling – A young plant develops leaves and roots.

4. Mature Plant – The plant becomes fully grown and can produce
flowers or cones.

5. Reproduction – The plant produces seeds through flowers, fruits, or

cones to start a new cycle.

✨ Importance:

 Seeds allow plants to spread and survive in different places.

 Flowering and fruiting ensure new plants grow.

🐾 Life Cycle of Animals

Animals have different kinds of life cycles:

1. Animals with Metamorphosis

 Example: Butterfly 🦋

o Egg → Larva (caterpillar) → Pupa (chrysalis) → Adult butterfly

 Example: Frog 🐸

o Egg → Tadpole → Young frog → Adult frog

2. Animals without Metamorphosis

 Example: Chicken 🐓

o Egg → Chick → Young chicken → Adult chicken

 Example: Humans 👶 → 👦 → 👩 → 👵

✨ Importance:

 Life cycles ensure animals grow, develop, and produce offspring.

 Adaptations in life cycles help them survive in their environments.

✅ Summary

 Both plants and animals have life cycles that include birth, growth,
reproduction, and death.

 Life cycles are important because they:

o Allow living things to survive in nature

o Ensure they can reproduce and continue their species
