SESSION-2025-2026

Tutorial-1 SEM-1st

In Pursuit of Excellence
Tutorial-1 (CO-1)
TOPIC: Coplanar Concurrent Force Systems
1. A system of force acting on a body as shown in fig.2. Determine its resultant
(R=160.11 N, R makes an angle of 24.160 from X axis)

Fig.1 Fig. 2

2. Two unequal forces acting at a point at an angle of 1500 have a resultant which is
perpendicular to the smaller force. The larger force is 24 N. Find the smaller force
and resultant. (20.78N, 12N).

3. The magnitude of two forces is such that when acting at right angles produce a
resultant force of √ 20 and when acting at 60 degree produce a resultant equal to
√[Link] the magnitude of two forces.(Ans: 2 unit and 4 unit)

4. Two cylinders of diameters 100 mm and 50 mm weighing 200 N and 50 N

respectively are placed in a trough as shown in [Link] friction find the
reactions at contact surfaces A, B, C and D.(RA=37.51 N, RB=62.52 N, RC=287.53
N , RD= 353.53 N)

5. Two cylinders, A of weight 4000 N and B of weight 2000 N rest on smooth inclines
as shown in fig.3. They are connected by a bar of negligible weight hinged to each
cylinder at its geometric centre by smooth pipe. Find the force P to be applied as
shown in fig. such that it will hold the system in the given configuration. (1071.79
N)
