Poultry Shed Automation System
Introduction
Poultry farming requires precision in managing feed, water, lighting, and environmental
conditions. Traditional manual systems are labor-intensive, error-prone, and difficult to scale.
With the rising demand for efficiency, consistency, and cost reduction, automation has become
essential. This proposal presents a Poultry Shed Automation System designed to minimize
labour dependency and to optimize operations.
Objectives
● Develop and automate a mobile feeding mechanism that moves across cage rows to
feed chicks efficiently and ensure uniform feed distribution.
● Automate the egg collection and lighting systems to minimize manual labor.
● Provide centralized monitoring and control through programmable systems and IoT
dashboards.
System Features
1. Automated Feeding Mechanism (Core Component)
● A motorized rail/trolley system moves along cage rows with mounted feed dispensers.
● Dispenses measured portions directly into feeding trays, ensuring uniform distribution.
● Programmable scheduling for precise intervals and portion control.
● Reduces feed waste and ensures chicks receive consistent nutrition.
2. Control & Programming
● System controlled by PLC or microcontroller (Arduino/ESP/Siemens LOGO).
● Feed timing, trolley speed, and portion size can be programmed.
● Integrated with sensors to monitor feed tray levels and optimize operation.
3. Automatic Egg Collection
● Conveyor or tray-based collection system to reduce manual handling.
4. Lighting Automation
● Smart LED lighting system with automated day/night cycles.
● Helps regulate growth and egg-laying patterns.
5. IoT Monitoring & Alerts
● Mobile dashboard for real-time monitoring of feed cycles, egg counts, and resource
usage.
● Data logging for trend analysis and decision-making.
● Push notifications for feed shortages, system errors, or environmental changes.
