Let's Protect Our Environment Together

Our earth is like a beautiful blue and green gem in the universe, but now it is
facing more and more environmental problems. Polluted air, dirty rivers, and piles
of garbage are threatening the home we live in. As students, we should take action
to protect the environment, because every small effort can make a big difference.
One of the easiest ways to protect the environment is to save resources in our
daily lives. I always remember to turn off the lights and the tap when I leave a
room. Wasting electricity and water not only increases energy consumption but also
harms the environment. For example, saving one kilowatt - hour of electricity can
reduce the emission of a certain amount of carbon dioxide, which helps to slow down
global warming. I also try to reuse things as much as possible. My mother and I
often turn old clothes into small bags or rags, and we use reusable shopping bags
instead of plastic ones when we go shopping. Plastic bags are hard to decompose and
can pollute the soil and water for a long time.
Another important thing we can do is to reduce garbage. I have learned to sort
garbage at home. We put paper, plastic, glass, and kitchen waste into different
bins. Sorting garbage makes it easier for waste to be recycled. Last month, our
class held a "No Waste Lunch" activity. We brought our own tableware instead of
using disposable ones, and we only took as much food as we could eat. At the end of
the activity, there was almost no food waste left. It made me realize that
everyone's small action can help reduce a lot of garbage.
Planting trees is also a great way to protect the environment. Trees can absorb
carbon dioxide and release oxygen, which purifies the air. Last spring, my
classmates and I went to the park to plant small saplings. We dug holes, put the
saplings in, filled the holes with soil, and watered them carefully. The teacher
told us that these small saplings will grow into big trees in a few years and make
our city more beautiful. Looking at the saplings we planted, I felt a sense of
pride, because we were doing something useful for the earth.
Protecting the environment is not a task for a few people; it is the responsibility
of everyone. We should start from small things around us, develop good
environmental habits, and encourage our family and friends to join us. Only by
working together can we make our earth more beautiful and provide a better home for
future generations.
