1. Would you consider being a pastor a career? Why or why not?
I would not consider a pastor as a career. For me personally, pastor is an ordination
and it is not like a job which has a progress that you can see or count. Being a pastor
more like a calling to live as a servant for God and His churches or congregations,
also to fulfill His mission. Even pastors do have responsibilities and need skills in
any professional, the motivation is rooted in service and spiritual rather than
personal advancement.
Even though ones see being a pastor a career, because we can still observe the
progress unfolding seamlessly.
2. What initially sparked your interest in becoming a pastor? Describe the moment or
series of events that made you consider this calling?
I spent lots of my time at church either as a song leader or a committee member for
youth ministry. I think that was the starting point that I considered to be a pastor. I
felt happy for being at church, doing something for someone else, and doing some
charity programs.
However, I think the spark of spirit became deeper when I was a candidate pastor in
the congregation. As a pastor, we are there with the people who through the crucial
and sacred moments of their lives. Even today, I am still amaze and deeply grateful
for being chosen as an ordained pastor, despite the fact that each of these
responsibilities is certainly challenging.
3. Identify and describe at least three people who have significantly influenced your
decision to become a pastor. These could be teachers, family members, mentors, or
anyone who has inspired you.
I would say my mom for the one and only who influenced and supported my
decision to become a pastor. My dad and siblings, they were disagree with my
decision, because they expected to see me as an engineer. However, they allowed me
to go ahead.
4. In today’s generation, what qualities and skills do you believe are essential for an
ideal pastor?
As a young pastor, I believe that the essential qualifies for an ideal pastor must have
a broad perspective on both real-world issues and spiritual issues recognizing the
burdens that most people face. To support this perspective, a pastor should embody
qualities like: deep love, humility, integrity, effective communication, empathy, and
servant leadership.
