Module 3 – Section 1 – Observation Example

In a destreamed grade 10 math class, Al is demonstrating understanding of the topics. Al is


able to answer questions when guided through them. When left on his own, he does not
complete the practice work. Peers in the class claim he is stupid and he smiles and does not
deny it.

Present your observations as shown in this table:

Knowledge and Understanding Al is able to perform basic calculations and


can factor expressions with help from a
reference sheet.

Thinking Al needed assistance from his group to


proceed through the thinking task.

Communication Al is able to describe the steps after being


shown how to do a problem, but has to be
prompted to use correct mathematical
terminology.

Application Al struggles to apply his knowledge to word


problems and thinking tasks.

Behavioural/Emotional Al frequently asks to go to the bathroom


when asked to practice work.

Al is often on his phone during lessons.
