Text:
Nowadays, many teenagers decide to take weekend or part-time jobs. The reasons are
different. Some young people simply want to earn extra money to buy clothes, go out with
friends, or save for a new phone or a trip. Others are motivated by the wish to gain work
experience that may help them in the future.

There are many advantages of having a part-time job as a student. Firstly, it teaches
responsibility, punctuality, and discipline. Employers expect young workers to come on time,
follow rules, and complete tasks carefully. Secondly, such jobs often involve customer
service, which helps to develop communication and problem-solving skills. These abilities are
extremely valuable on the job market, regardless of the profession you choose later.
Moreover, part-time jobs can boost teenagers’ confidence and independence.

However, there are also disadvantages. Some students spend too much time at work, which
can negatively affect their school results. Working late in the evening may cause tiredness and
stress, making it difficult to focus on lessons the next day. In addition, combining work and
studies requires good time management, which not every teenager has. Parents and teachers
often worry that young people who work too much will not have enough energy for their
education.

In conclusion, part-time jobs have both benefits and drawbacks. They give valuable
experience and money, but they may also interfere with learning. The key factor is balance: if
students work responsibly and do not let their job dominate their life, part-time employment
can be a rewarding experience that prepares them for future career challenges.

Questions:

1. What are the main reasons why teenagers decide to work?

2. What skills can students develop thanks to part-time jobs?
3. What are the possible disadvantages of working too much?
4. What is the author’s conclusion about part-time jobs?
