• Wire numbering
• Ethernet adapter
• E-Cabinet with AC unit and control system
• HMI Screens and programing
• Wire numbering
- This provides specific wire numbering for each individual wire termination point. The
standard wire numbering system has a number system for each individual wire, but the
numbering system is repeated per device.
• Ethernet adapter
- This provides the addition of an Ethernet card to the PLC.

2.2.9 Special options

• Cover for main drive shaft
- Cover over the conveyor drive shaft provides two main
benefits. During maintenance or observation, the drive
side of the washer is covered to avoid grease from the
drive gears unintentionally tracking into the washing
compartment from clothes or hands etc. The second
benefit protects operators from moving parts during
“cleaning” or maintenance.

• Improved scrubber brush design with no holes on bottom

- not. This option helps to minimize potential visual defects after the coating or
tempering process. The mounting of the scrubber brush is now from the top side
which allows for no thru holes or voids of bristles on the scrubber brush. This is
not a standard and needs to be decided up front if needed or

• Request to run washer conveyor in the up position / Maintenance position and still
comply with CE norm
- The solution or concept is still unknown. The scope of supply for this option is based on the
simple programing change. If the solutions require mechanical and or peripheral devices to
stay within safety norms these charges will be communicated to the buyer and approved.
- If the solution and
potential cost are not agreed, then this item is not part of any contractual scope from the
seller.
- Side security fences mounted on the top part of washer are included.

• Auto positioning devices for blower manifold flaps

- 1 positioning motor is attached to each outlet on the manifold of the
blower system. These positioning motors allow for a faster and semi-
automated positioning of the amount of air traveling to each individual air
knife. Fine adjustment at each air knife flap local to the machine may still
be required for sufficient drying.
- Mounted in all air outlets in all section

• Water hose connection points

- Stainless steel piping and connections for hoses at the washer for maintenance / cleaning of
tanks.

4 Washing machine description

4.1 Utilization of the washing machine

The washing machine is designed to be integrated into a production line for coated glass sheets.
The machine is equipped with a PLC control which regulates the internal processes in the washer. In
automatic operation, the washer conveyor runs permanently. The controls of the preceding and
subsequent conveyors are responsible for the transfer of glass sheets with the right timing
necessary for the coating plant.
Communication between the controls is achieved by means of hardware interface signals.
The quality of washing and drying depends on the quality of the water fed to the washing machine,
on the age of the glass and on the working speed. Glass coming from a production of more than 2
weeks ago can be contaminated by oxidation. These contaminations can only be removed by means
of abrasive additives.

4.2 Polishing bridge aggregates upper

Polishing aggregate consists of two bridges that are transversally placed across the transport
conveyor of the washing machine. Transversal bridges are driven via a cam from an electric motor.
Bridges are made of stainless steel and equipped with a set of shafts with vertical axes of rotation.
The shafts are fitted to cast iron housings with precise bearings. Rotation of the shafts are belt
driven by motor. The pulleys are made of aluminum die cast alloy to maximize longevity.

Two (2) rows arrangement of the polishing bridges eliminates harmonic issues. Bridge velocity has
an advantageous sinusoidal shape. Transversal frequency of polishing bridges is a direct
relationship to the glass speed on the conveyor. This variance in frequency assures that the glass is
fully polished (see the graph below).

The working height of the brushes – brush pressure – is manually adjustable through adjustment
screws on both sides of the bridges. Numeric value of the brush height over the glass is indicated on
a mechanical display of the aggregate. It is possible to lift both bridges to an emergency position
over glass plane by means of a pneumatic drive.
The bridges are equipped with hanging hooks for a crank with respect to maintenance and easily
lifting of bridges from a washing machine.

4.3 Machine frame

The frame is divided into an inferior and a height adjustable superior part. The longitudinal machine
beams consist of anodized aluminum system profiles such that the functional elements can be
mounted as modules.

The frame is welded from steel profiles, sand blasted, galvanized, coated with two layers of paint
and screwed with extruded aluminum profiles.

The upper frame and the outlet funnel are made in corrosion-proof stainless steel and fitted with
metal sheets for washing section separation. Easily removable glass sheets make the machine
easily accessible and allow a visual control of the washing process.

4.4 Conveyor rollers

The conveyor rollers are protected against corrosion via the design and utilization of the proper
materials. The rollers consist of seamless tubes with stainless steel end shafts. The rollers before
the first cleaning section are typically NBR material to resist oils and swelling. After the 1st cleaning
section the rollers are typically EPDM material. EPDM is used to extend the life of the rollers as the
material is low wear and extremely abrasion proof. This benefits the end user as EPDM protects
against abrasion marks on the glass that are often present when using lesser quality roller materials
as well as maximizing the lifespan of the rollers themselves.
The conveyor rollers operate via sealed roller bearings with lifetime lubrication. The bearings are
housed in bearing block.
Typically, by removing four bolts, the rollers can be lifted out of the washer with no dismantling of
drive elements or rolling bearings. This ensures extremely low operating expenses and repairs.

Since drive elements are outside of the sealed working environment of the washer, further protection
from water and heat is obtained.
The roller bearings are sealed from water via Perbunan V-rings. The upper and lower sections of the
washer are sealed when in the working position to further aid in the containment of water reaching
the drive system.

4.5 Pressure rollers

The design of the pressure rollers is like the conveyor rollers, with the following differences:
The pressure rollers are driven by a specially designed Delrin gear with two stainless steel retaining
rings. These gears allow the lower conveyor roller to drive the upper roller producing precise
synchronization. The result is very accurate transportation of the glass sheet, minimizing marks and
other process related issues.

The drive gears are situated on one side to minimize trouble-shooting/maintenance.

The pressure rollers are borne in flange bearings outside the wet area. This way of bearing enables
the roller to move upwards to adapt to the glass thickness and wear resisting operation. The rollers
are sealed towards the outside by Perbunan V-rings. To improve water separation to the subsequent
section, the last pressure roller is fitted with a roofing plate for water deflection from above.

4.6 Cylindrical brushes

The cylindrical brushes are manufactured from a stainless-steel core and have welded solid
stainless-steel end shafts. They are densely covered with Perlon bristles and precisely balanced
electro dynamically to ensure a true spin.
To ensure optimum cleaning performance, the rollers can be
individually adjusted. This is achieved by a simple turn of the
adjusting screw. Loosening the locking nut and turning the drive
nut allows you to adjust the cylindrical brush up or down on the
threaded shaft.
The cylindrical brushes can be lifted from the upper and lower
sections of the washer without dismantling of drive elements, like
the technique for the conveyor rollers. Perbunan V-rings provide
a lateral seal, assuring protection of the drive elements from the
internal wash section.
Upper and lower cylindrical brushes are driven by V-belts. There
is a motor for the upper brushes as well as a separate motor for bottom brushes allowing for no
dismantling of belts to raise or lower the washer.
Slack from the drive belts is removed via a spring-loaded belt tensioning device which automatically
adjusts as the belt stretches. This provides the best preventative measure for slippage and allows
for instant removal of the belt for replacement with no hand tools necessary.

4.7 Water collection tank

A water collection tank for washing water, made of corrosion proof stainless steel, is mounted under
each washing section. The tank can be removed to the side on rollers for cleaning purposes. The
connecting lines between tank and machine can easily be disconnected through quick-release
couplings. The tank is further equipped with an overflow and an isolating valve for draining the tank.
The water level is regulated by means of a float valve.
Each tank is equipped with larger wheels on the end opposite the drain line to create slope for
proper drainage.
Each tank is covered with a screen plate which can easily be lifted away and cleaned.
The float switches disconnect the pumps in case of low water level.

4.8 Spray bars

Every washer comes standard with an upper and lower pre-spray bar. There are two spray bars in
each wash section in addition to the pre-spray section. (One below and one above) If the washer
has two wash sections then there is a total of 6 spray bars (3 upper, 3 lower). If the washer has 3
wash sections, then there are total of 8 spray bars. (4 upper and 4 lower)
The spray bars consist of a ¾ inch ID stainless steel tube with threaded stainless-steel nozzle jets.
The nozzles are inserted across the length of the spray bar. The spray jets allow for even water
coverage of the bristles. Systems without this coverage suffer from insufficient water coverage
resulting in scratched glass as well as premature bristle damage.
Upper and lower spray tubes are plumbed to a common
stainless-steel shaft. A special fitting offers the advantage of
removing the spray bars with no tools and having a positive
stop for accurate positioning of the spray jets when
reinstalling. The opposite end of the tube is fitted with a
removable stop to allow its easy cleaning.
The spray tubes always remain at the same height and are
independent from the machines height adjustment system.
This assures that the upper spray tube is easily accessible
when the height adjustment has been lifted to the
maintenance position. This feature also enables the
operators to service the machine quick and easily.

4.9 Pumps
Water circulation for each washing section is affected by means of a block circulating pump. The
pump is a TEFC rated and has a stainless-steel impeller and shaft. Water is pumped from the
washer tank through a mesh filter inside the tank to the pump, through the supplied filters and then
to the upper and lower spray bar for that section.

4.10 Water circulation - Cascade system (system described may not represent
system sold with washer)
The spray section is fed with the buyer’s city water unless specified in the options section of this
quote. Run-off water is fed to drain unless otherwise specified in the options section of this quote.
All cylindrical brush wash sections are part of the cascade system. The last tank is equipped with a
float valve for the supply of fresh water. The water cascades from the last tank to the first tank.
This concept allows for the water to cascade opposite the direction of glass flow. This assures that
the cleanest water in the system is always in the last washing section as well as minimizing water
waste. It also allows for lower heating energy to be used as each section helps heat the adjacent
section opposite the flow of glass. This approach is a huge benefit over other designs as water
quality, water conservation, and heating all complement each other.
The water overflow in the first tank can be fed to drain or to a D.I. water system. In order to obtain
perfect washing results, it is necessary to maintain a conductivity of less than 10 µS.

Connections:
Water fill valve on last tank 3/8” Float valve
Water main fill on last tank 1” Pipe coupling
Water outlet at collecting tank 1½ ” Ball valve
Water overflow at collecting tank 1” Pipe coupling

4.11 Center support of conveyor rollers

The center of rollers which are subject to pressure from the pressure rollers are fitted with a center
support bearing. This support prevents bending of the rollers such that various individual glass
sheets can be transported side by side without problems.

4.12 Drying section

The system contains 3 individual knives (3 upper and 3 lower).
The first pair of air knives are tear dropped air knives which allow for a lower turbulence high velocity
drying especially beneficial for technical washing applications. They serve the main function of
removing water from the leading edge, side edges and sheeting the surface water off the glass
sheet.

The remaining round air knife pair(s) are mainly for back edge water removal. This arrangement
allows an optimum drying performance for higher conveyor speeds
Each air knife is equipped with an individual manual throttle valve to allow for tuning between air
knives.
The air knives are connected to a flexible sound deadening tube that is connected to the distributor.
The distributor is fitted with an automatic shut off valve that limits air going to the air knives. This
serves two purposes. When the washer conveyor stops, the valve closes to avoid drying of stopped
glass in the washer which could result in a residue mark. It also provides back pressure when the Y
Delta motor starts up, assuring a longer lifetime of the blower motor. If the stop is longer than the
preset (approx. 5 minutes), the fan will automatically shut off to conserve energy and prevent
overheating. The distributor is then connected directly to the main blower unit.
Cullet trays are provided for removal of cullet in the drying section.

4.13 Air filters

High-capacity filters are mounted to the noise insulation hood.

4.14 Height adjustment

The upper machine frame is suspended from threaded spindle gears to adapt to the required glass
thickness. Adjustment is affected by means of a motor with two adjustment speeds. It is moved up or
down by buttons. A digital display indicates the selected thickness. The upper machine frame can be
lifted 400 mm for inspection/ maintenance.

4.15 Frequency controlled conveyor drive

The conveyor rollers of the entire washer are centrally driven by an A.C. motor via a frequency
converter. Power is transferred from the motor to the main drive shaft via a tensioned chain drive.
The conveyor speed can be adjusted by the operator’s panel within the parameters explained in the
technical section of this quote.

4.16 Blower platform

Separate blower on the construction (podest) and located on site of machine, not above.
The blower frame/platform is made of steel that is hot galvanized.
The platform can be accessed from the ground.

transport equipment (crane and fork lift trucks) including operators.
Internal transport at installation site is to be carried out by the buyer.

The training of the operating personnel will be held in German/English. If necessary, the Buyer will
