Introduction

Dusshera is a festival that celebrates the victory of good over evil. The burning of Ravan reminds us
not only of the destruction of external evil but also of the importance of defeating the demons
within ourselves. This year, I reflected on the weaknesses and habits that hold me back and decided
to identify my own ten “demons.”

Procrastination

Inconsistency

Laziness

Comparison with Others

Lack of Patience
My Ten Demons
Dishonesty (even in small excuses)

Self-Doubt

Overuse of Social Media

Overthinking

Anger

Why I Chose These Demons

Each of these inner demons touches my life in a very real way and affects both my values and the
way I live every day.
i. Procrastination makes me push things to tomorrow, which wastes my time and stops
me from achieving my goals on time. It lowers my efficiency and often leaves me
feeling stressed at the last minute.

ii. Anger and impatience hurt the people around me. Sometimes I say or do things in
the heat of the moment that I later regret. This goes against my values of kindness,
compassion, and respect for others.

iii. Overthinking and self-doubt act like chains that hold me back. I spend so much time
worrying about “what if” that I often fail to take action. Instead of moving forward
confidently, I hesitate and lose opportunities.

iv. Overuse of social media eats away at my time and attention. Hours pass without me
even realizing it, time that could have been used for studying, working, or spending
with loved ones. This weakens my focus and takes me away from meaningful
experiences.

v. Dishonesty, even in small excuses or white lies, slowly pulls me away from the value
of truth. It creates a gap between the person I want to be and the person I sometimes
become.

vi. Comparison with others makes me feel less thankful for what I already have. Instead
of celebrating my own journey and progress, I start measuring myself against others,
which builds jealousy or insecurity.

vii. Laziness and inconsistency keep me from building good habits. Even when I start
something with excitement, I sometimes leave it halfway. This weakens my
discipline and stops me from growing into a stronger, more reliable person.
All these mentioned demons don’t just cause small problems they directly affect my character, my
values, and my happiness. Unless I learn to fight and overcome them, they will continue to control
my life and keep me from becoming the best version of myself.

How They Affect My Life

These demons make me feel guilty, unproductive, and sometimes disconnected from my values of
truth, humility, and compassion. They create barriers to my personal growth and cause me to fall
short of my own standards. By allowing them to control me, I end up weakening both my ethics and
self-respect.
Steps to Burn or Overcome Them
 Procrastination: Use daily to-do lists and break tasks into smaller steps.
 Anger & Overthinking: Practice mindfulness and deep breathing.
 Social Media Overuse: Set time caps and use screen limits.
 Self-Doubt: Replace negative self-talk with affirmations.
 Dishonesty: Commit to truthfulness even in small matters.
 Lack of Patience: Pause before reacting and cultivate empathy.
 Comparison: Focus on gratitude and my own journey.
 Laziness & Inconsistency: Build routines, set achievable goals, and celebrate small wins.
Burning Ravan outside is symbolic, but burning these demons within is the true celebration of
Dusshera. Victory lies in overcoming weaknesses and striving to live with truth, humility, and
compassion. By conquering these inner battles, I can move closer to becoming the person I truly
aspire to be.
