History is the study of the past incidents.
It’s all about what happened before us: events, people, and the changes that shaped
out world today.
Example:- History helps us avoid repeating mistakes and learn from the past.

HOW DID HISTORY START?
It all began around 5,000 years ago in ancient civilization.
Before that people stories orally.
The first real “history” started with the invention of writing systems.
In Mesopotamia (Iraq), around 3500 BCE, called the Sumerians that created cuneiform –
wedge-shaped marks on clay tablets.
They wrote about their daily life such as – trade records and king’s victories etc.

In Egypt, along with Nile river, the ancient Egyptians used hieroglyphics on papyrus scroll.

They recorded pharaohs’ reigns, like King Tutankhamun (or King Tut), and built massive
pyramids as eternal records of their history.

History as a systematic study started in ancient Greece around 500 BCE.
Greeks started questioning “Why?” and “How?” these happened what were the causes
and reasons instead of just listing the events.
They traveled, asked local people, and wrote books to explain the past.

The big name is Herodotus, a Greek traveler from Halicarnassus (Turkey).
Born around 484 BCE, he is called the “Father of History”.
Why is called the “Father of History?” – he was the first one to wrote the big history book known as
“The Histories”, it is about the Greco-Persian Wars.

Herodotus didn’t just copy old tales-he investigated! He made it account on the basis of
orally talk to locals, questioned myths.
Example:- he described the Battle of Marathon in 490 BCE, where outnumbered Greeks
beats the Persians.
His book or accounts is full of exciting stories.
History have “mothers” too! Though often overlooked, women like Ban Zhao in ancient
China (around 45-116 CE) wrote historical texts.
She wrote a “Book of Han”, detailing emperors’ lives in the Han Dynasty.

Thucydides, another Greek, who lived around 460-400 BCE. He focused on facts over myths
in his book about the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta.
he said history should ne accurate and useful for future leaders – like a guidebook for avoiding
wars.
