address for an ELS (Electrical Lean Switch).

This chapter gives you an overview of the configuration and the hardware and
software components used to create the sample program.
3.1 Overview
Table 3-1 gives an overview of the configuration used to create the sample
program.

In this example the DLC protocol is used to assign an IP address to the ELS from
the PC via Industrial Ethernet.
3.2 Hardware and Software Components Used

Notes The sample project has been created with a specific hardware configuration.
This must be maintained to ensure proper functioning.
If you use another network card instead of the CP1613 for the sample program,
you do not need to make any changes.
Software requirements
You need the software below to make the example work.
• Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP1 or higher as operating system
• Primary Setup Tool

4 Installation and Configuration
This chapter describes how to install the Primary Setup Tool and how to assign the
IP address for an ELS TP 40M.
You need an Industrial Ethernet cable and the Primary Setup Tool to assign the IP
address for an ELS.
Follow the instructions below to install the Primary Setup Tool (PST) and assign an
IP address to the ELS.

Step Description
1. Connect the PC to the same network as the ELS TP40M with an Industrial
Ethernet cable.
2. The Primary Setup Tool is available for downloading as ZIP file at this link:

3. Unpack the ZIP file and double-click the "[Link]" file to start installing the
Primary Setup Tool.
4. Once the Primary Setup Tool has been successfully installed, start the
program in Windows via the menu "Start SIMATIC Primary Setup Tool".
5. The first time you start the Primary Setup Tool you are queried about the
current language setting.
Select your language.
6. The Primary Setup Tool uses the DCP (Discovery Control Protocol) and DLC
(Data Link Control) protocols for communication with the modules.
If the "DLC protocol not installed" message is displayed, double-click the
message and follow the instructions to install the DLC protocol.

7. Via the "Settings Network Card" menu you select the network card via
which the PC is connected to the network and to the ELS.
8. Select the "Network Browse" menu.

9. All the INCs (Intelligent Network Components) found are displayed in the tree
view of the Primary Setup Tool.
10. In the tree view you select the MAC address of the ELS.
Note
The MAC address of the ELS is given on a sticker on the module.
11. Select the Detail View of the Primary Setup Tool enter a valid IP address for
the ELS.
12. The IP address is assigned to the ELS via the "Module Download" menu.
13. Now select the "Network Browse" menu once again to update the display.
