Forest and river dominate O'Leno State Park. By contrast, Lloyd Beach State
Recreation Area, near Fort Lauderdale, is dominated by the oily bodies of
sun-worshippers who crowd into it every summer weekend. Where O'Leno gives
you so much quiet you can hear the leaves whispering, Lloyd Beach is a place of
boisterous activity. You can walk a few yards in O'Leno and pass beyond every
sign of human civilization. When you walk at Lloyd Beach, you have to be careful
to step over the picnic baskets, umbrellas, jam boxes, and browning bodies. At
night, O'Leno wraps itself with the silence of crickets and owls. Lloyd Beach is
busy with fishermen till well past midnight. If you want to fish near town, or dive
into the busy bustle of an urban beach, Lloyd Beach is the place to go. But if you
want to stand at the edge of civilization and look across time into an older
natural world, O'Leno is the park to visit.

Around 2 a.m. something woke Charles Hanson up. He lay in the dark listening.
Something felt wrong. Outside, crickets sang, tree-frogs chirruped. Across the
distant forest floated two muffled hoots from a barred owl. It was too quiet. At
home in New Jersey, the nights are filled with the busy, comforting sounds of
traffic. You always have the comforting knowledge that other people are all
around you. And light: At home he can read in bed by the glow of the streetlight.
It was too quiet. And much too dark. Even starlight failed to penetrate the
80-foot canopy of trees the camper was parked beneath. It was the darkest
dark he had ever seen. He felt for the flashlight beside his bunk. It was gone. He
found where his pants were hanging and, as he felt the pockets for a box of
matches, something rustled in the leaves right outside the window, inches from
his face. He heard his wife, Wanda, hold her breath; she was awake, too. Then,
whatever, was outside in the darkness also breathed, and the huge silence of the
night seemed to come inside the camper, stifling them. It was then he decided to
pack up and move to a motel.

Sunset is the time of day when our sky meets the outer space solar winds.
There are blue, pink, and purple swirls, spinning and twisting, like clouds of
balloons caught in a whirlwind. The sun moves slowly to hide behind the line of
horizon, while the moon races to take its place in prominence atop the night sky.
People slow to a crawl, entranced, fully forgetting the deeds that must still be
done. There is a coolness, a calmness, when the sun does set.

Here is the perfect system for cleaning your room. First, move all of the items
that do not have a proper place to the center of the room. Get rid of at least
five things that you have not used within the last year. Take out all of the trash,
and place all of the dirty dishes in the kitchen sink. Now find a location for each
of the items you had placed in the center of the room. For any remaining items,
see if you can squeeze them in under your bed or stuff them into the back of
your closet. See, that was easy!

While there were many contributing factors to the French Revolution, a primary
cause was a financial crisis brought on by royal extravagance. For years before
the revolution finally exploded in 1789, the royal government had been borrowing
heavily to cover deficit spending. (Cobb, 1988.) Even though France’s high courts
of appeal cautioned against such borrowing, the royal’s extravagance continued,
eventually resulting in a financial crisis that required the government to institute
a series of taxes. As the press highlighted the government’s spending with
cartoons and stories, the peasants, already burdened by high taxes, low wages
and poor harvests, began to resent the demands of the royals. (5)Finally, in 1789,
the Third Estate—the common people—became so enraged, they demanded a new
constitution and refused to compromise with the existing government until it was
written. (6) This demand set off the first sparks of revolution.

What I can do
Descriptive (sensory):
Life after Death
How relieving is it to finally realize that the end of all the troubles in your life is disappearing
before your sight? The pain, hardships, problems, issues, misery, and suffering are finally over
as your life passes away. Now, let’s imagine what it is to find in life after death. For me, if I would
envision the scenario after dying, I would imagine myself in a humongous house, free from all
stressors and unwinding forever with a company. As I enter the house, I will be welcomed by my
departed friend with a big smile on his lips. I will be toured by him, and he will immediately pull
me to his favorite part of the house, where the television is located, and I can untiringly watch all
the happy memories that I acquired on earth. As we walk through the backyard, we will see my
deceased dog patiently waiting for my arrival. His emptiness will finally be fulfilled, and he shall
be with his owner forever. After satisfying my dog’s gloom, I will be toured back to the house in
the kitchen. Opening the refrigerator, I see the foods are mere happiness because there will be
no hunger afterlife. Then the last part of the tour will be the bedroom, unlike on earth, the room
will be quiet, free from noise externally and internally. And I shall dwell in the house perpetually
as I enjoy the company of my friend.
Problem-solution:
Corruption in the Philippines
Corruption has been attached to the government since it originated. One of the most popular
countries for the prevalence of corruption is the Philippines. The country scored 33 out of 100
based on the given criteria and ranked 117 out of 180 countries in the corruption perceptions
index (Transparency International, 2021). This data shows how prevalent corruption is in the
country because the lower the score, the more corrupt a country is. Many politicians have been
promising to eradicate dishonesty if they are seated in the government, but those promises are
still waiting to be fulfilled. So, I prepared three possible solutions for corruption. First, I would
remove all the pork barrels (allocated funds) of the senators because they are just lawmakers,
they do not build infrastructure and organize projects that will cost a large amount of money. All
they need are courage and willingness to serve the Filipino people by creating fair and
beneficial laws. Second, I would implement that the President should have at most three allies
in the senate because it is one of the emerging issues in the Philippines currently. If the 3
branches of the government are held by a single person, no one can contradict his decisions,
whether it may be good or bad for the people. Lastly, I would abolish all the unnecessary
departments of the government. One of the ways for corrupt officials to acquire money is to
promote bureaucracy because if there are more agencies, there will be more funds to be
dispersed, there will be more money for the official to put in his pocket. The suppression of
corruption in a country is one of the most promising ways to obliterate poverty, and it is the best
option for us to experience rapid economic growth.
Persuasion
Should the death penalty be implemented?
Some people say that one of the most effective and efficient ways of disciplining criminals is to
impose the death penalty as capital punishment. Though others pronounce that life is precious
and should not be denied to any person because only God can take it. But what actually is the
most ethical way of punishing criminals? Some law experts agree to the death penalty if and
only if the judicial system is fixed because until then, we could potentially kill an innocent person
while the real suspect is chilling in his mansion swimming in a pool of money. Imagine yourself
being accused of murder without really killing someone. Murder is punishable by capital
punishment, and currently, the penalty for the crime is reclusion perpetua or life imprisonment.
The mere fact that you will be detained because of a crime you did not commit is horrible, what
more if you are sentenced to death? According to World Justice Protect, the Philippines ranked
102 out of 139 countries in the rule of law index. It means that the justice system in the country
is not trustworthy, and therefore, the death penalty should be postponed until the system is
fixed.
Comparison-Contrast
2012 vs 2022
When was the last time you smelled the Christmas breeze? Is it when you were 5, 6, or 7 years
old? The last time I experienced the adrenaline rush caused by the excitement of opening the
presents was in 2012. In that year, life was more peaceful, simple, and pleasant. Technology is
not that abundant compared to what we have today. You need to keep up with the demand of
complexity the current generation possesses in the present time. Before, education was all
about books, notebooks, and pens. While today, schooling is not complete without internet
connection, gadgets, or simply, technology. This is what separates the past from the present. As
modern knowledge grows, the complexity of life also grows, and thus, the past generations are
having a hard time keeping up. That’s why we need to guide them because they are the cause
of our existence in this world, and they deserve every guidance from us, just like how they
taught us how to walk.
Definition
What is Love?
Love, according to the dictionary, is an intense feeling of deep affection. Though, I believe that
all of us have many definitions of love. It can either be a form of trust with someone or him. He
who makes your day every time you see him. He who revitalizes your strength every time you
talk to him, and most importantly, he who makes up the entirety of you. As he becomes your
world, and you become his. The point is, that the question, “What is Love?” is a subjective
answer. There is no right or wrong answer because the only objective question to love is, “Is it
the right choice to love him?”. And the most magical thing is, you know the correct answer, and
you can change it whenever you want for your benefit. Finally, after uttering the right answer, the
reality will not change that the exact meaning of love has always been about affection. Even
though you are not in love with him, you will still think about him every night because you are
still affected.
Exemplification
Taming the Thoughts in my Head
More often than not, controlling our untamed thoughts whenever we are thrown into turmoil, as
the world is getting arduous to live in, is among the most back-breaking things to do when we
are getting clouded with uncertainties, worries, and afflictions. When I was younger and was told
to watch out and take heed of my younger brother, one of the first indications that he was
hungry was when he cried. Of course, he can’t control his emotions because it’s in our nature to
express how we feel. However, as our emotions take over, it becomes difficult to go against their
waves, so we end up just riding on them, swaying as the waves do. But now that my emotions
are rooted in my hunger for happiness, not just for food, I can’t help but resonate through my
actions with what is inside of my mind and my heart. I remember crying my heart out when my
close friend invited me to their house for a family gathering where we played lots of games and
ate almost all of my favorite foods. It’s because, back then, it was so difficult for our family to be
as complete and close as my friend’s family was. My parents were busy working to build a better
future for us—and I just thought, why do I need to experience this not in my family but in others?
I mean, I was supposed to enjoy the event because I got everything I wanted there, but since I
couldn’t control myself, I burst out in front of her, saying things I wish I could take back. After
going through those, I can say that things aren’t getting easier. I’m quite certain you can relate
to it as I put you in my shoes, and perhaps you can recall an experience similar to mine. But I
believe that to tame our thoughts: one must stand up, take control, and not allow our emotions
to take over.
