Assignment Description: Arithmetic Logic Unit
Objective: Project Objectives:
Understand the architecture and functionality of an Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU).
Implement the designed ALU in Lab View
Verify the functionality of the ALU through simulation and testing.
Optimize the ALU design for performance and efficiency.
Part 1: Circuit Design
• The ALU circuit should be an 8 bit ALU with the following functions
• Not A (One’s Complement)
• A OR B
• A AND B
• A+B
The ALU will execute the functions using the following table
F0 F1 Instruction
00 NOT A
01 A or B
10 A AND B
11 A+B
The circuit below is an example of the logic gates required to implement a one bit
ALU You can find it at [Link]

Your 8-bit ALU should be based on this design.
Part 2: Write Up
ALU Design Document: Detailed documentation of the ALU architecture, specifications, and design
considerations.
ALU Implementation: Hardware implementation of the ALU in LabVIEW
Simulation Results: Comprehensive simulation results demonstrating the functionality and performance
of the ALU under different test scenarios.
Final Project Report: Written report summarizing the entire project, including background research,
design methodology, implementation details, testing results, and conclusions.
Video Presentation. Submit a short recording of the ALU functioning in LabVIEW

Submission Format:
1. Submission Students must submit the assignment before the due date, result in a loss of 5% each
working day. The submission should be uploaded as zipped folder to the Moodle platform. Only
zipped folders MUST be uploaded as Final Project FirstName Last Name ID:no
Submissions that are not collected on time due to your computer not working, Internet connection being
down, viruses on computer, hard disk damaged, special events such as a wedding, for example, will incur
5% penalty.
To reiterate, all course works that are one working day late will be penalized by losing 5%, two working
days late 10% and so on (unless you are very ill or have valid case then a formal letter must be written
supporting a request for extension and submitted to the computer department).
PLAGIARISM
You are reminded of the policy regarding plagiarism (also known as copying, cheating, or getting no marks)
that:
1. ALL work will be checked thoroughly.
Please do not plagiarize as it will create problems for you, and create more work for me, and I can
GUARANTEE you, it will be discovered.
