recommendation. Locate where accessible for servicing and replacement.

2.2 Water Mist System

2.2.1 Pipe installation

 The pipe installation will be carried out based on the SHEHABCO shop drawings.
 Pipe supports will be drilled to the concrete and fixed with anchors and/or through C-channels.
 The route of the piping should be planned to be as unobtrusive as possible.
 The piping should be planned to be safe and out of public reach.
 The piping should not cover access hatches, cabinets, doors or emergency equipment.
 The number of bends should be kept to a minimum based on the requirements of the installation, as
this increases the pressure drop of the piping network.
 Visible piping may need a lot of bending for reasons of aesthetics and keeping the piping close to the
surface to which it is being attached, but piping that is hidden needs not be bent as much.
 Always when handling the pipes and piping components all tools and lifting equipment must be
stainless steel material or protected so there is no risk of getting rust marks to the components.
 Installing main pipes and section valves to the ceiling heavy loads (>100 kgs) might need more people
in installation.
Preparing piping for installation
- Step 1: CuFng, deburring and cleaning of the pipe.
- Step 2: Pre-assembly of the cutting ring.
- Step 3: Inspec&on of the pre-assembly.
- Step 4: Installation.

Cutting the pipes

- Always use a saw for cutting the pipes: either an automatic pipe saw, a hacksaw
with a cutting guide tool or a saw for stainless steel.
- Always cut the pipes right-angled.
- Remove the burr inside and outside the pipe ends (only the sharp edges).

Bending the pipes

Bend the pipe work into shape as standard. Do not use elbow couplings unless approved by FOGTEC.

Use a pipe bending device. The pipe bending device is typically a hand-held device for
smallest sizes, electrically or hydraulically operated for larger sizes and it may or may
not have an internal spool to support the pipe walls in bending process.

In any bending operation, the tools must be designed and designated for work with
stainless steel; for example, corrosive iron tools may not be used. Only tools and guides
that are stainless steel or hard coated (for example hard chromated) tools and guides
can be used in direct contact with the pipe material.

Connections Pipe sizes up to 35 mm

Connecting the pipes is done using the progressive ring type of fittings in material AISI 316. These
connections include through connections, T connections and distribution blocks.

All connections must be pre-assembled using a pre-assembly machine or pre-assembly tools. This ensures
that the cutting ring has the necessary bite into the pipe.

Correct pre-fitting is important because the pipe / cutting ring is of stainless-steel material as is the body of
the sprinkler. Fitting oil must be used. Normally the nuts are of zinc coated steel. If AISI-nut / AISI-
connection housing is used, use couplings grease Suitable for this purpose to prevent seizing.
Clamp spacing
The basis for the FOGTEC recommended clamp spacing are the NFPA 750 requirements.
Deviations from the recommendations must be approved by FOGTEC project manager

2.2.2 Testing
All the tests for the pump units and other equipment in the pump room are allowed only
for Deutschland Technology Co. personnel. Method for testing & commissioning shall be
issued.
Flushing
-Flushing is done to clean and de-air the piping network.
-Flushing shall be done by the flush valves as located in the drawings; drain must exist in these locations.
-Flushing for the main pipe and each section must be carried out and reported. In flushing the water must
be clean fresh water. Flushing &me is 15 minutes with 5 bars.

Pressure Testing
-Pressure testing is made to insure there is no leakage in the pipe network.
-Pressure tests for the main pipe and each section must be carried out and reported.
-Pressure test is done with clean fresh water for 30 minutes with 1.5 the working pressure (210 bars). All
the air must be bled out before starting the test.
Pressure testing instructions
Step 1. Visually check the complete piping network.
Step 2. Check that each connec&on has been made and &ghtened.
Step 3. Check that each valve is in the correct position.
Step 4. Fill the piping with water.
Step 5. De-air the piping by flushing the piping network via the flushing valves.
Step 6. Connect the network to the test pump unit.
Step 7. Test the piping with pressure which is 1.5 &mes the maximum working pressure (210 bar) for
dura&on 30 minutes.
Step 8. If no leaks are perceived, release the pressure then disconnect the test pump and record the tested
zone in accordance with pressure test form.
Step 9. If a leak is perceived (pressure drops more than 5 bar), release the pressure of the piping network
completely before tightening or remaking the connection and repeat the above steps after adopting the
leakage point.
2.2.3 Pre-Functional Test Measures
In order that the FOGTEC system can be commissioned and tested, the following tasks/equipment should
be completed and supplied by the customer/installer. (Where Applicable):

 All distribution pipework should be completed and pressure tested in accordance with the pressure
test requirements. All pressure tests should be documented any such documents should be
available for inspection by the commissioning supervisor, prior to commissioning.
 All sprinklers and spray heads should be in place or alternatively be plugged with the correct
blanking plugs supplied.
 If applicable, all feed water supply pump(s) should be in place and fully piped in accordance with
the relevant installation requirements.
 A source of clean feed water shall be available, and in sufficient quantity so as to allow full system
testing.
 All high-pressure pump units should be in place and adequately secured.
 All interconnection pipework between the pump unit and distribution pipework should be
completed and pressure tested.
 All drain pipe work should be completed.
 Power supply to be made available (isolated) for immediate use.
 All low power alarm and signaling cabling to be completed and tested. (Point to point) All cabling to
be suitably marked and identified.
 All equipment to be properly earthed in compliance with the latest edition of the local electrical
regulations.
 All section valves to be securely mounted and clearly identified.
2.3 Gas Suppression Systems

2.3.1 Cylinder installation

 The cylinders should be located as close to the protected hazard area as possible. The assemblies shall
be located in a readily accessible location to allow for manual actuation and ease of inspection, service
and maintenance.
 The cylinders shall be located in an environment protected from the weather and External heating
 Position cylinders in designated location and secure in place with cylinder bracket
 Connect flexible discharge hose to cylinder outlet port. Repeat for each cylinder in system.
 Connect Copper tubing or pilot hose between the pilot cylinder or the Master Cylinder and the first
slave cylinder, pneumatic actuation port. Repeat for the other slave cylinders.
 Each cylinder bracket must be securely anchored to structural supports to absorb the force Generated
by cylinder discharge.

2.3.2 Cylinder Support Installation

 Locate the drill holes coordinates for the bracket to be mounted and drill the holes on the wall.
 Use drop-in anchor bolts to mount the bracket on the wall.

2.3.3 Cylinder to Bracket Installation

The cylinder brackets are manufactured from galvanized steel band. They are formed to the radius of the
cylinder with flanges for bol&ng and to con&nuous slot metal framing channel (12- gauge steel with
corrosion-resistant paint ). The channel is to be supplied by the installer. The cylinder bracket must be
secured to a surface such that the bracket will withstand a load up to 5 &mes of the cylinder weight. This
precaution is to have the bracket safely supports the weight of the cylinder and the reaction force of the
Clean Agent when discharge.

One cylinder bracket is required for the 20 lb, 35 lb, 70 lb, 100 lb, 150 lb, and 250 lb cylinders. For the 375
lb, 560 lb, 800 lb, 1000 lb and 1200 lb cylinders
