Collaborative Research Project Final Deliverable Guidelines (25%)

OPTION 1: Research Essay
Write a 1500-word research essay on the topic your group has chosen. Your
essay should include the following information:
An introduction, a body with around 4-5 paragraphs and a conclusion.
The essay should also include 5 direct quotes or images for support and 10 total
citations.
Use APA formatting for the entire research essay and citations. If you include
resources not on your initial references page, include them here in a new
References page.
OPTION 2: Podcast
Record a 15-minute podcast on the topic your group has chosen. Your podcast
should include the following information:
An introduction where you explain the topic, provide some background
information and identify your position on the topic (is it argumentative, expository)
to explain the purpose of your research
Provide examples of support from at least 5 sources you’ve found on the topic
from your research. You can include audio clips, video or interviews you have
found related to the topic during the podcast although keep these to a minimum
length (30 seconds is a good amount of time per clip).
Include some opposition information, disagreements of opinion that you found
while researching the topic and what your group thinks about these alternative
ideas
You can include sound, music, images or other effects in your podcast as well –
make sure to identify the source of these in a References page that you submit
with your podcast
OPTION 3: Multimedia project
Create a multimedia project on the topic your group has chosen. Your multimedia
project can include the following components (it doesn’t have to include each of
these – you can decide what works for your topic but you should have at least 2
different types of media included):
You can design a webpage that features background information, some context
on the topic and identify your position on the topic (is it argumentative,
expository) to explain the purpose of your research
You can design a poster or advertisement for your topic that identifies the topic
and some key aspects the topic (use similar techniques covered in the media
literacy section of the course – text, image, audience, etc)
COMM 19999 – Essential Communication Skills
You can design an infographic to provide key evidence, information and images
on the topic
You can create a social media feed (any platform is fine) with at least 5 posts on
your topic that include images, evidence, quotes, or anything else that you thinks
is essential to the topic
These multimedia aspects should include 5 direct quotes and 10 total citations
from the research you have found on your topic. The citations can be for images,
video, quotes, paraphrases.
Include a brief pre-recorded presentation (around 5 minutes in length maximum)
that provides a brief overview of your project (what your purpose was, what you
hoped to accomplish, why you decided on the types of media that you ended up
creating
Include a resource page with the References for your citations if you have used
any resources that don’t appear on your Research component
OPTION 4: Community based project
Create a multimedia project on a valuable community-based resource in one of
the following areas: Halton, Peel, Toronto (if you have another area in mind you
can contact your instructor for approval). Your group’s community based
multimedia project can include the following components (it doesn’t have to
include each of these – you can decide what works for your topic but you should
have at least 2 different types of media included):

on the topic and identify your position on the community resource (is it
argumentative, expository) to explain the purpose of your research
