water? (1)

SECTION – B (2 marks each)

Q6. State two applications of Henry’s law in daily life. (2)

Q7. Write similarities and dissimilarities between Henry’s law and Raoult’s law. (2)

Q8. Differentiate between:

(a) Positive deviation from Raoult’s law
(b) Negative deviation from Raoult’s law with one example each. (2)

Q9. An aqueous solution of glucose has a boiling point of 100.26°C. Calculate the molality of
the solution.
(Given: Kb for water = 0.52 K kg mol⁻¹, boiling point of pure water = 100°C). (2)

Q10. (PYQ 2018, 2 marks) A solution containing 15 g of urea (molar mass = 60 g mol⁻¹) per
500 g of water is prepared. Calculate the depression in freezing point. (Kf for water = 1.86 K
kg mol⁻¹). (2)

SECTION – C (3 marks each)

Q11. Explain colligative properties. Why are they called so? Name the four colligative
properties. (3)

Q12. A solution of sucrose (C₁₂H₂₂O₁₁) is prepared by dissolving 68.4 g in 1000 g of water.

Calculate the freezing point of the solution. (Molar mass of sucrose = 342 g mol⁻¹, Kf = 1.86 K
kg mol⁻¹). (3)

Q13. (PYQ 2015, 3 marks) Vapour pressure of pure water at 298 K is 23.8 mm Hg. 50 g of
urea (M = 60 g mol⁻¹) is added to 850 g of water. Calculate the vapour pressure of the
solution. (3)

Q14. When 1 mole of NaCl is dissolved in 1000 g of water, the observed depression in
freezing point corresponds to i = 1.87. Calculate the degree of dissociation (α) of NaCl. (3)
