SoP is the most important document there is, for your VISA. The officer gets all the important
information they need in order to process your file.
SOP is not a biography. Rather it is about storytelling and how you sell your story to them.
This is an example of how I think one should start there SOP:
In the boundless realm of ones and zeros, amidst the symphony of code and innovation, I stand with
unwavering determination, ready to embark on an odyssey that will redefine the trajectory of my life.
Leaving behind the irreplaceable comforts of home – the laughter of my loved ones, the camaraderie of
lifelong friends, and a highly esteemed career – I find myself at the precipice of a momentous decision.
The pursuit of a Master's degree in Computer Science beckons me towards a distant horizon, not only as
an academic ascent but also as an emotional expedition, challenging me to unravel the depths of my
potential and forging an indelible bond between the dreams I dare to chase and the ones I cherish most.
This leap into the unknown holds the promise of growth, discovery, and the chance to make an impact
beyond borders, and I am resolute in my commitment to seize it.
Your reader should be interested why you are writing this study plan.
When you mention about your academical background relate to that you are leading to your
bachelors/masters. Don’t such keep on giving numerical data of what you scored over the years. I have
seen a lot of people saying what they did academically, you have your results attached to do so.
Mention why you are choosing that specific university/college and why you are not choosing something
similar back home, even though it’s cheaper. Mention how it helps you to follow your career goal. Also,
mention why you are choosing Canada as well. But relate back to your goal and how it will help you
come back to your motherland. This way everything remains intertwined.
If are doing a job currently, you should clearly mention that how important your job is and what is bring
to the table but yet you are leaving it behind in search of something greater.
Clarify what doors will be opened for you with this degree and why you are choosing this university.
Then mention why you are choosing Canada and not studying this back home.
Family Ties. Tie them in a knot that will them be 100% sure of why you are stuck back home. And what
will lead you back home. Intertwine between your country tie and family tie. Make them believe with all
the sob stories and motivation of coming back home. Both in terms of family and jobs, make tie among
them. Don’t just say you have responsibilities towards your parents. That’s in everyone’s study plan.
Lastly you can finish it off with what you will do with the skills that you gained and how can you use it
back home.
It is all about how you tell your stories. And not about:
My father has 1000000 worth land with business 1510232 and stores with 551351, with monthly income
35133 but my expense is 5133 which is not a lot.
When you write something like this they might just miss important points, you have your finacial
documents to know that you are financially sufficient. So I guess mentioning that you are financially
sufficient is good enough.
I believe as long you keep all your important points in the sop and provide supporting documents for all
that you mentioned in your study plan, you will be good to go.
Best of luck.
Godspeed, Fardin Muntasir.
