GM 2.

8 V6 ENGINE ASSEMBLY
After conducting tests and measurements on each of the fixed and moving parts of the engine
from the General Motor (GM) 2.8 V6 brand, the assembly of said engine was carried out
under the following procedure:

1. Installation of the crankshaft and the main bearing caps

This procedure was carried out by lubricating and placing the metals and the crankshaft in the
monoblock to later place the covers and apply a tightening torque of 65
lb/ft.

2. Placement of pistons
This procedure was performed with the help of a ring clamp, initially.
at that moment each of the rings were placed in the compartments
corresponding ones to subsequently lubricate each of them, as well as the sleeves,
before its placement in each of the cylinders of the monoblock.
3. Oil pump and sump
The oil pump and the oil pan were placed at the bottom of the engine, not without first
carry out the corresponding lubrication, as well as the placement of the gasket.

Camshaft
The camshaft for this engine is located between the cylinder head.
it was carefully and properly placed in its corresponding location.

5. Oil filter
After mounting the engine on the bench with the help of the crane, we proceeded to
install the engine oil filter.

6. Timing chain and cover

The engine layout was placed taking into account the reference marks and the
manufacturer specifications.

7. Assembly of the cylinder heads

To carry out the procedure for assembling the cylinder heads, with the help of
a spring compressor was installed on each of the intake and exhaust valves
in its corresponding place.
With the help of a spring compressor, we center and compress the spring.
sufficient to be able to place the wedges after having greased them. Once
after performing the previous procedure, we loosen and remove the spring compressor from
careful manner.
Then, after placing the gaskets for each of the cylinder heads, one proceeds to
mount the engine head in such a way that the guide is centered, then
we proceed to place the screws with a torque of 60 lb/ft applied in 3
moments, and taking into account the tightening sequence established by the manufacturer.

8. Placement of divers, rods, balancers, and calibration of aiming devices

After loading the sweaters, they were placed on the monoblock to subsequently
place the rods, the rockers and perform the corresponding calibration to 2
thousandths of an inch.

Sight covers
For the installation of the end caps, the contact area was first lubricated.
The joints were placed and finally the corresponding tightening torque was applied to each.
one of the screws.

Admission multiple
Before placing the admission assembly, we properly align the joints.
applying a little grease to prevent movement. The sequence and the tightening torque
we carry it out according to the manufacturer's specifications, which in this case is
35 lb/ft.

11. Escape multiples

Immediately, the escape multiples were placed on the sides of the engine, having
count the manufacturer's specifications.

12. Initial power-on time setting

For the timely setup, the following steps were taken:
We identified the arrangement of cylinders
We place cylinder number one at TDC in the compression phase.
We removed the distributor cap and checked the direction of rotation of the
brush
We identified the distribution brands.
We observed the position of the brush and placed the distributor cap.
We placed the spark plug wire of cylinder one on the top where it goes.
the brush.
We loosened the distributor with the aim of identifying the spark.
We open the switch and look for the spark detonation by slowly turning.
the distributor.
Once the spark is identified, we tighten the distributor and place the rest.
of the spark plug wires clockwise and following the firing order
specific to the engine.
