Holy Week

for children

Palm Sunday
This episode of the gospel brings
concrete elements that can be of
great interest for children and that captivate
with ease: the borrowed donkey, the
applauses stirred by the people leaving
their houses to receive Jesus like a
king, the joyful and enthusiastic shouts, the
mantles thrown to the ground, the simplicity of
Jesus who, being the son of the Owner of
world, doesn't even have a donkey or
camel to make his entrance in the
big city of Jerusalem. On Sunday
of the Ramos that we now celebrate us
announce that Jesus comes as our
Salvador and we received him with
cheers and applause in the background of
our hearts.

The Last Supper

It is very significant for children that
Jesus, like any good friend, before
facing death, wanted to say goodbye to
his friends dining with them. Thus it
they will feel like a close, real person,
affectionate, who showed very human gestures
while he lived on earth. That neither
Jesus had a house to celebrate this dinner.
and had to ask a friend for a room
they had vegetables, lamb for dinner,
unleavened bread and wine. That night
leaves us as a farewell memory the
that we now call Eucharist where He
it becomes present again and gives us the
mandate to love one another.
Highlight the gesture of humility of Jesus
kneeling before his friends and
wash their feet. Comment that the
goodbyes are generally sad
because it is supposed that friends
they separate and will not see each other for a long time

time. Relate to foods

farewell relatives to a friend or
relative because he is going to another country, or he
changed jobs or is going on a trip.

Good Friday
On the day of his death, nailed to a cross.
Highlight the most important moments,
not the cruelest: the path of the cross,
Jesus carrying the cross on his
backs, and their falls under their weight, the
moment that comforts his mother and
the women who cry in the street, being
undressed in front of everyone, then
nailed to the wood, forgiving his
perpetrators and then handing over their
spirit in the hands of his Father of the
heavens. The sad experience of the Virgin
he sees how they treat their Son, so sad
like those of today's mothers who see
your children dying in the war, or in the
attacks, or victims of some
incurable disease.
The Resurrection
Jesus died on the cross but how
had announced defeated death and
he resurrected on the third day. Elements that are
of interest to children: Jesus left the
sheets in which they had wrapped his
neatly folded corpse at
resurrect, a group of women wanted
visit him very early in the morning, his crying at
believed that they had stolen her body, the
surprise at the news of his resurrection,
the appearance of Jesus to Mary Magdalene, the
Jesus' request to go to the city
and tell what he has seen, the joy of the
women and the disciples. With her
death and resurrection, Jesus us
gain the possibility of resurrection and
to reach heaven and enjoy the presence and
God's love for all eternity. This
it is the most important feast of the Church,
the Easter season is a time of
joy, delight, and hope for the
Christians.
Reflection

Besides praying, talking, and commenting

these facts, other activities
suitable for children could be:
participate in the Palm Sunday Mass,
keep the bouquet in some place
highlight of the house, visit to a church
to contemplate the train stations
crucis, special food on the night of
Easter or on Resurrection Sunday,
night prayer centered on the
sacramento that is celebrated, etc.
