Problem Tree Analysis Guide

The document describes the problem tree method, a technique for mapping a central problem by identifying its causes and effects graphically. The problem tree represents the causes in the roots, the main problem in the trunk, and the effects in the leaves and branches. To create a problem tree, the situation is analyzed to identify the central problem, then its causes and effects are identified through brainstorming, and finally, the tree is drawn showing these relationships.

TREE OF PROBLEMS

Also known as the tree method, problem tree technique, analysis

situational or problem analysis, this tool allows us to map or diagram the
problem. The problem tree is a technique used to identify a
negative situation (central problem), which is attempted to solve by analyzing relationships
of causal-type. To do this, the central problem must be formulated in such a way that
allow different alternatives for solutions, instead of a unique solution.
After defining the central problem, both the causes that lead to it are presented.
they generate like the negative effects produced, and they are interconnected
three components in a graphical way.
The appropriate technique to relate causes and effects, once defined
The central problem is brainstorming. This technique involves making a list.
of all the possible causes and effects of the problem that arise, after
have made a diagnosis about the situation that needs to be resolved.
The structure of a problem tree is:

• The causes of the problem are found in the roots.

• The trunk represents the main problem
• The effects or consequences are in the leaves and branches.
It is a way of representing the problem, allowing one to understand at a glance what it is.
is happening (main problem), why it is happening (causes) and what is it that
this is causing (the effects or consequences).

How to make a problem tree step by step

To create a framework that manages to analyze and solve a problematic situation, one
they must follow the following steps:

➢ Analyze the situation

If the situation of a problem is analyzed, one must determine what is happening, because
what is happening and what is being generated. Then all that data is gathered, in order to
understand the state of the situation. Identify the main problems of the situation
analyzed

Most of the techniques that are useful for providing ideas are very helpful.
Onebrainstormingas a team, you can determine the main cause of the problem,
what is a favorable alternative.

➢ Determine the effects and causes of the main problem

With the obtained data, we already have the trunk of the tree which is the central problem and it
move on to identifying the causes which would be the roots and the effects will be
the branches and the leaves.

➢ Draw the tree

This can be done graphically in a simple way, noting the causes of the problem
central and noting the effects caused by the central problem.

➢ Deepen the causes and effects

By solving the central problem, it will be much easier to determine the causes and the
effects. This means that by determining each cause, the problem will be further explored
that generates the effect.
