1. A cold rolled steel cantilever member shown in fig is subjected to a transverse


load at its end that varies from 45N to 135N down as an axial load varies from
110N compression to 450N tension. Determine the required diameter at the
change of section for infinite life using FOS of 2. The strength properties of the
material are σu = 550 MPa, σy = 470 Mpa and σe = 275 Mpa
(Take following readings from Graph: Ka = 0.87; Kb = 0.85, Kc =0.7 (axial) & 1
(bending) ; Kt = 1.635(axial) & 1.44 (bending)
