SECTION A (60 marks)
1. (a)Equal square which are as large as possible are drawn on a rectangular board
measuring 54cm by 78cm. Find the size of each square.
(b) In a class of 40 students 17 students are boys and the rest are girls. Determine:
i. The percentage of girls to boys
ii. The number of boys in decimals.

2. (a)Express 3+√7 in the form of a+𝑏√𝑐 where a,b and c are integers.

(b)Given that log 2 = 0.3010 and log 5 = 0.6990 find the value of log(2 2) without
using mathematical table.
3. in a certain school ,40 students were asked about whether they like tennis or football
or both. IF it was found that the number of students who like both tennis and football
was three times the number of students who like tennis only. Furthermore, the number
of students who like football only was 6 more than twice the number of students
who like tennis only. However ,4 students like neither tennis nor football.
a) Represent this information in Venn diagram, Use any letter in computing.
b) Use the results obtained in part (a) to determine the probability that a student
selected at random likes.
i. Football only
ii. Both football and tennis
4. (a)A quadrilateral has vertex A(6,-4), B(8,4), P(6,1) and Q(7,5) determine whether or
not AB is parallel to PQ.

(b)The points P and Q have position vector a and b respectively. If a = 2i − 7j and

2a + 3b = 13i − 2j. Find the components of vector b

5. (a) The area of regular six-sided plot of a land inscribed in a circular track of radius r

(b) In the following triangle 𝐴𝐵 = 8𝑐𝑚 , 𝐵𝐶 = 11.3𝑐𝑚 𝑎𝑛𝑑 < 𝐴𝐵𝐶 = 30° find the
area of the triangle.

6. (a) On one rain day, it was observed that 850ml of water were corrected in a tank
every minute. If it rained continuously from 8:10 am to 11:52 am calculate in litres,
the amount of water collected.
(b) The time in seconds is used by Mary to go back home from the school varies
inversely with her average speed v in metres per second .She gets back home in
30minutes at an average speed of 10m/s.
7. (a)If the sum and difference of ages of Amina and Bakari are in the ratio 5:4 what
would be the ratio of their respective ages?
(b)Mr. Mrisho recorded the transaction of his business in February 2022 in cash
account as follows.

Using the given cash account, extract the trial balance as at 28th February ,2022.
8. (a)A school wishes to invest Tsh.100,000,000 in a bank which pays an interest rate of
2% compounded annually
i. Find the total amount of money that will be accumulated after two years.
ii. Calculate the interest after two years.
(b)If the fifth and sixth term of a Geometric Progression (G.P) are 162 and 486
Respectively Find the common ratio and the first term of the G.P.

9. (a)From the top of a building 75m high, john sees a lorry and a minibus along the
road, both being on one side of the building at the angles of depression of
30° and 60° respectively
i. Sketch a diagram to representing this information
ii. Determine the distance between the distance the cars, leaving the answer in
surd form.
(b)The sum of the squares of two consecutive positive numbers is 61. Find the
numbers.
10. (a) Given that 3𝑥 2 − 7𝑥 − 6 = 0 use complete the square to find the value of 𝑥.
(b) From the equation you obtained in part (a) Find the value (s) of x that satisfy it by

11. (i) In the terminal examination of certain school the score of students in computer
science subject were grouped as shown in the following table.

a) Find the mean score correct to 2 decimal places, given an assumed mean of 77.

12. (a) Find the distance in nautical miles between each of the following pairs of points:
i. A (18°N, 12°E)and B(65°N, 12°E).
ii. C(31°S, 76°W)and D(22°N, 76°W).
(b)Study the following figure and rectangular square box ABCDEFGH whose sides
are 8cm each and answer the question that follows.

(b) A businessman plan to buy at most 210 sacks of Irish and sweet potatoes. Irish
potatoes costs 30,000 per sack and sweet potatoes costs shs.5,000 per sacks. He can spend up
to Shs.2,500,000 for his business. The profit on a single sack of Irish potatoes is shs.12000
and for sweet potatoes is shs. 10000. How many sacks of each type of potatoes business man
will buy in order to realize the maximum profit?
