Programming Club – Grade 1 (Lesson 1)
⏰ Duration: 40 minutes
🎯 Objective: Students understand that computers/robots follow step-by-step instructions.
Lesson Plan
1. Warm-up (5 minutes)
• Teacher says: 'I am a robot. Give me instructions!'
• Students give simple commands: Step forward, Turn left, Clap hands.
• Teacher follows exactly as they say (even silly mistakes).
👉 Message: A robot only does what you tell it – nothing more!
2. Main Activity – Robot Game (15 minutes)
• Arrange squares on the floor (like a maze).
• One student is the robot, another is the programmer.
• The programmer gives instructions step by step: 'Forward, Forward, Turn right.'
• Robot follows to reach a target (like a toy).
3. Main Activity – Draw Instructions (10 minutes)
• On paper, students draw a path (e.g., from house to school).
• Write arrows (→ ↓ ↑) as instructions.
• Swap papers and follow each other's instructions.
4. Wrap-up (5 minutes)
• Ask: 'What did we learn today?'
Expected answers: 'Robots need instructions.' 'We must say steps clearly.'
Homework
Draw your own robot at home and write 3 instructions for it (e.g., Jump, Dance, Sing).
