DESCRIPTIVE TEXT
The Definition of Descriptive Text is a text that describes about someone or something in detail (jenis teks
yang berisi deskripsi atau gambaran mengenai suatu objek secara terperinci (mendetail).
The Purpose of Descriptive Text to describe a person, place, or things in such a way that a picture is
formed in the reader’s mind (untuk menjabarkan atau menggambarkan orang, tempat, atau objek
tertentu secara rinci dan jelas, sehingga gambaran tersebut bisa terbenak di benak pembaca)
Generic Structure of Descriptive Text
1. Identification berisi pengenalan objek yang ingin dideskripsikan. Misalnya, nama objek itu apa, dari
mana objek itu berasal, atau siapa pemilik objek tersebut.
Example: My father just bought a new car for me. That car has been long on my wishlist.
2. Description berisi penjelasan yang lebih spesifik dari suatu objek. Kamu bisa menjabarkan sifat-sifat,
atau ciri-ciri fisik dan nonfisik yang ada pada objek tersebut.
Example: My new car is one of the latest sport cars from Italy. The car is a two passenger-seat
model or sedan car, the one seat is for the driver and the other is for a single passenger.
Language Features of Descriptive Text
1. Adjective(kata sifat) : Saat mendeskripsikan suatu objek, kita pasti menggunakan kata sifat,
seperti besar, kecil, tinggi, pendek, pintar, ramah, dan lain sebagainya.
Example: Hanni is so pretty. She has an oval face, rounded eyes, pointed nose, and long hair. She is
smart and friendly.

3. Adverb of Frequency: kata keterangan yang berguna untuk menunjukkan seberapa sering suatu
kegiatan dilakukan seperti always = selalu, usually = biasanya, often = sering,
sometimes=kadang-kadang, rarely = jarang, never = tidak pernah, every = setiap.
Example: Hevi is a helpful and polite person. She often helps me to do my homework and always respects
the elders.

Let me introduce you to my best friend. Her name is Hanni. She is my classmate in Junior High School. She is
thirteen years old.
Description:
Hanni is so pretty. She has an oval face, rounded eyes, pointed nose, and beautiful black long hair. Her skin
color is fair. Also, she has a slim body and is quite tall. She is 155 centimeters tall.
Hanni really loves to sing and dance. She joins the dance club as her extracurricular activity at school. She
is smart and friendly. She often helps me to do my homework and always respects the elders. Everyone loves her.
