- Identify the structure of an informal email.
- Use linking words (first, then, also, because, but, etc.).
- Write a short, clear email (100–120 words).
1. Warm-up
Discuss: When was the last time you wrote an email/message to a friend? What did you write
about?
2. Model Email
Hi Sarah,
How are you? I hope you’re doing well.
Last weekend I went to the beach with my family. The weather was sunny, so we swam and played
volleyball. I also met some new people, and we had a picnic together. It was so much fun!
What about you? What did you do last weekend?
Write soon,
Anna
Email Structure:
- Greeting (Hi Sarah)
- Introduction (How are you?)
- Body (past experiences, activities, details)
- Closing (Write soon, Bye, etc.)
Useful Linking Words:
and, but, so, because, also, then, after that
3. Controlled Practice
a) Fill in the blanks with a linking word:
1. I stayed home ___ it was raining.
2. I played football, ___ I didn’t score any goals.
b) Reorder these sentences into a short paragraph:
- I visited my grandmother.
- She cooked a delicious meal.
- We watched TV together.
4. Guided Writing Task
Write a short email (100–120 words) to a friend about your last weekend.
Include:
1. Greeting
2. What you did
3. Extra details (who, where, feelings)
4. A question for your friend
5. Closing
5. Peer Review
Exchange your email with a partner. Check if your partner:
- Used greeting, body, and closing
- Used at least 3 linking words
6. Homework
Write another email (100–120 words) about your plans for next weekend.
