Class 10 Mathematics Notes – Algebra & Geometry

These notes are designed for Class 10 students following the Bangladesh curriculum. They
summarize key formulas, rules, and solved problems in Algebra and Geometry.

Algebra
1. Laws of Indices: a^m × a^n = a^(m+n), a^m ÷ a^n = a^(m−n), (a^m)^n = a^(mn).

2. Factorization Methods: common factor, grouping, difference of squares, perfect square,

sum/difference of cubes.

3. Quadratic Equations: Standard form ax² + bx + c = 0. Solution formula: x = [−b ± √(b² − 4ac)] / 2a.

4. Simultaneous Equations: Solve using substitution, elimination, or cross multiplication.

5. Progressions: Arithmetic progression (AP), Geometric progression (GP). nth term and sum
formulas.

Example Problem (Algebra):

Solve: x² − 5x + 6 = 0
Solution: Factorize → (x−2)(x−3)=0 → x=2 or x=3.

Geometry
1. Pythagoras Theorem: In a right triangle, (Hypotenuse)² = (Base)² + (Perpendicular)².

2. Circle Theorems: Angle in a semicircle = 90°, angles in the same segment are equal, opposite
angles of cyclic quadrilateral = 180°.

3. Similarity: Corresponding sides of similar triangles are proportional, corresponding angles are
equal.

4. Area of Triangle (Heron’s formula): √[s(s−a)(s−b)(s−c)], where s=(a+b+c)/2.

5. Coordinate Geometry: Distance formula, midpoint formula, slope formula, equation of line.

Example Problem (Geometry):

Find the distance between points A(2,3) and B(7,11).
Solution: Distance = √[(7−2)² + (11−3)²] = √(25+64) = √89.
