In many countries, primary and secondary school close for two

months or more in the summer holidays. What is the value of long

school holidays ? What are the arguments in favour of shorter
school holidays?
It is common for primary and secondary schools in many
countries to allow students to take a summer vacation lasting two
months or longer. This essay will discuss both the benefits of
longer school holidays and the advantages of shorter ones.
First and foremost, long summer breaks can offer students several
merits that help them before they return to school. After around
nine months or more of intensive study, students need sufficient
time to relieve all the tension in class, where they have to spend
the day at school and evening at home doing homework.
Furthermore, holidays create chances for travel and exploration.
Visiting new places helps children broaden their horizons, learn
about different cultures, and gain practical knowledge beyond
textbooks. Such experiences not only enrich their understanding
of the world but also foster enthusiasm and motivation when they
resume classes.
However, having fewer days off during the summer can also be
beneficial. In this day and age, students usually spend all their
time at home during their summer vacation, for screens or
sleeping without helping their parents with household chores.
Generally, they are becoming lazier and may cause detrimental to
their health. Therefore, the optimal solution with this problem is to
deliberately reduce the days off from school. This approach will
force the students’ studying to be more effective and offer them
healthier habits.
In conclusion, enabling students to take longer summer holidays
can be beneficial for their mental health and provide the chance
to learn new things. By contrast, shorter breaks can help students
enhance their academic performance.
