Gerund and infinitives:
Read the conversation and put the verbs in brackets into the correct form, -ing
or infinitive.
A: Well, it's our last day at school, Anna. How do you feel about (1) leaving.. (leave)?
B: I don't know really. I'm looking forward to (2) ................ (go) to university, but I hate
(3) ................ (have to) say goodbye to all my friends here.
A: I know. Do you remember our first day at school? You kept trying (4) ................ (escape)
by climbing through the windows. In the end, the teacher had to lock all the doors and
windows!
B: I know. I really didn't want (5) ................ (go) to school in the beginning. I used to beg my
mum to let me {6} ................ (stay) at home with her. I tried (7) ................ (tell) her all sorts
of nonsense - like I was ill, or that the teachers were horrible to me - but that never worked!
In the end, I realised that it was no good (8) ................ (fight) about it - I'd just have to put up
with (9) ................ (go) to school.
A: Well, I'm glad we were in the same class. Do you remember the time I jumped into the
deep end of the swimming pool by mistake and I thought I was drowning? You heard me

me from (11) ................ (go) under. After that, we went to the pool every evening and you
taught me (12) ................ (swim) properly.
B: Yes, we've had some good times together. Never mind, we'll still keep in touch, won't we?
A: Of course we will!
