Minor Project Design Problem- Village-Level Bus Terminal

Design a village-level bus terminal that caters to the public transport needs of a rural
population. The terminal should serve as a functional, user-friendly, and context-sensitive
transit facility.

Design Brief
You are to design a Bus Terminal in a village setting for 3-4 buses. The design must respond
to the local climate, rural character, and user needs, while ensuring ease of
operation, circulation space, turning radius of buses, loading unloading of goods and
passenger entry exit and comfort.
Site Context :
 Location: Hinjewadi,kusane village
 Site Area: 3000 [Link](65x46 sq.m)
 Access: 12 m wide approach road
 Surroundings: Agricultural fields on two sides, village settlement on one side
 Topography: Flat
 Climate: Hot and Dry (Design accordingly)

Key considerations

 Bus length = 12.0 m, width ≈ 2.5–2.6 m.

 Bay width per bus = 3.5 m (door clearance) and drive/maneuver aisle = 7.5 m (used
inside parking).
 Entry / Exit lanes sized for a bus movement: 6.0 m width each.
 Maintenance yard supports light servicing for one bus at a time with store-120sq.m
requirement
 Turning circle diameter recommended = 23.0 m (radius 11.5 m).
 Side rear and front margins are 6 m.
 Rain water harvesting- 30-40 sq.m require(tank + recharge pits)
 STP area-15-20 sq.m
Design consideration will also include
 Clear segregation of pedestrian and vehicular circulation
 Rain water harvesting
 Sewage treatment plant for grey water recycling
 Landscaping -10% of core area
 Sustainable material use for building construction
 Natural ventilation, daylighting, and climate response
