Discussion prompts
1. AI saves me time preparing and planning lessons, developing
homework activities and creating authentic learning materials. This
gives me more time to build relationships with my students, work on
differentiating learning, and focus on tracking their progress.
2. AI programs can provide much more targeted feedback to my
students on their speaking and pronunciation. It is better for them to
do this outside the classroom, so that I can focus on teaching them
the knowledge they need.
3. My students hate speaking activities in class because they don’t feel
confident. AI allows them to build confidence and prepares them for
communication in the real world.
4. AI is great for assessing language proficiency as it is reliable and
consistent.
5. I don’t really understand how AI works, but I don’t think that
matters. It’s the way of the future, so surely I can trust it? It provides
an unbiased and trustworthy source of information and language
learning support.
6. I am worried that AI will mean that language teaching is no longer a
viable career. It has the potential to replace teachers and traditional
classrooms.
7. AI is appropriate in a multi-cultural, global context as it exposes
students to different ways of thinking.
8. AI technology has made English language learning more flexible and
affordable for everyone, no matter where they live or how they want
to learn.
Your experience with AI language learning tools

use with your students.
How does it work?
What language skills, knowledge, strategies does it support?
What affordances and challenges does it present?
Are there any ethical considerations we should be aware of?
