1.

Why did you choose to focus on the perceived effects of multilingualism instead of
measuring actual speaking performance?
 We give importance to the perceptions because it drives an effect on the student's
motivation, confidence, and willingness since our research is employing a descriptive
approach. We choose perceived effects because our study focuses on the student's own
experiences and attitudes towards multilingualism.

2. Why did you choose HUMSS students of NNHS as your respondents?

 We choose HUMSS students because HUMSS students are more exposed in using English
language. They are also encouraged and expected to often use English language in
engaging in communication, debates, presentation, and reports. They also experience
challenges in speaking skills, making them a suitable respondent for examining the
effects of multilingualism.

3. How do you define speaking skills in the context of your research?

 Ability of the individual to effectively communicate orally.

4. Why did you use descriptive quantitative design instead of qualitative method?
 Our aim is to measure and describe the perceived effects of multilingualism on speaking
skills using numerical data
 to present an accurate picture of students' perceptions regarding multilingualism
 to measure and describe using numerical data
 practical way/short period of time in gathering data
 capture more participants
 to present an accurate picture of students’ perceptions
 to generalizable-summarizing students’ collective perceptions in a measurable way

5. What will happen to the rest of the 54 students who are not part of the sample?
 The remaining 54 students will not be included in the actual data collection, since they
are not chosen as part of the representative sample through Slovin’s formula in stratified
proportional random sampling however, their inclusion does not affect the reliability of
the study.
 123 provides results that are reliable and generalizable to the whole population.

6. How will you handle bias since "perception" can widely from student to student?
 Aside from checklist indicator we included an open-ended part

7. Independent and dependent variable

8. Why did you conduct this study?
 We are constantly exposed to different languages—our mother tongue, Filipino, and
English. We noticed that this multilingual environment affects how we communicate,
especially in terms of confidence, fluency, and proficiency in speaking. Since speaking
skill is very important not only in academics but also in future careers, we wanted to
examine how multilingualism influences our ability to express ourselves. By doing this
research, we aim to provide insights that will help both students and teachers better
understand the benefits and challenges of being multilingual, and how it can be
maximized to improve speaking competence.
