Class 10 Science ( Chapter: ) Nutrition
Question 1 (English): What is Nutrition?
Answer (English):-Nutrition is the process by which an organism
obtains food, converts it into usable form, and utilizes it for energy,
growth, and repair of the body.
Question 2 (English): How many types of nutrition are
there?
Answer (English):-There are mainly two types of nutrition –
1. Autotrophic
2. Heterotrophic
Question 3 (English): Define Autotrophic Nutrition.
Answer (English):- Autotrophic nutrition is the process in which
organisms (like green plants) prepare their own food from CO and
water using sunlight energy. This process is called photosynthesis.

CO ,O ).
Question 4 (English): What is Heterotrophic Nutrition?
Answer (English):- Heterotrophic nutrition is the type of nutrition in
which organisms cannot prepare their own food and depend on others.
For example – humans, animals, fungi, etc.
Answer (English):-There are three types of heterotrophic nutrition –
1. Parasitic nutrition
2. Symbiotic nutrition
3. Saprophytic nutrition
Question 6 (English): Explain the process of digestion in
humans.
Answer (English):- The human digestive system consists of the
following organs –
Mouth Chewing of food and digestion of carbohydrates by saliva
Pharynx & Oesophagus Transfer of food to the stomach
Stomach Digestion of proteins by HCl and pepsin enzyme
Small intestine Digestion of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats with
the help of secretions from liver and pancreas
Large intestine Absorption of water
Anus Removal of waste

Question 7 (English): Write the process of
Photosynthesis. (5 Marks)
Answer (English):- Photosynthesis is a process in which green plants
prepare glucose (food) from CO and water in the presence of sunlight
and chlorophyll, releasing oxygen gas.
Chemical equation:
6CO + 6H O C H +
O 6O

Question 8 (English): Explain the process of digestion in
Amoeba.
Answer (English):-Amoeba engulfs food using pseudopodia and
encloses it in a food vacuole. The enzymes in the vacuole digest the
food, and the absorbed nutrients spread inside the cell. Waste is
expelled outside.

Question 9 (English): Compare nutrition in plants and
humans.
Answer (English):- Plants Autotrophic, prepare food by
photosynthesis.
Humans Heterotrophic, depend on others for food.
Question 10 (English): Why is digestion said to be
enzyme-dependent?
Answer (English):- Because enzymes convert complex food
(carbohydrates, proteins, fats) into simpler forms (glucose, amino acids,
fatty acids), which can be absorbed by the body. Without enzymes,
digestion is not possible.
