BEC502 - Digital Signal Processing

Assignment 1 (Common to A, B & C sections)

Module I

1. Explain the following mathematical operations on signals with an example:

(i) Time Reversal (ii) Multiplication (iii) Time Shifting (iv) Time Scaling

2. List & discuss different discrete-time signals.

3. Explain the classification of signals with examples also define elementary discrete-
time signals.

4. For the discrete-time signal x(n) = {-1, 1, 2, 1, 2}, sketch and label:
i) y1(n) = x(–n–1)
ii) y2(n) = x(2n+1)
iii) y3(n) = x(n/3 + 2)
iv) y4(n) = 2x(n–3)

5. Check whether the following signals are periodic or not. If periodic, determine their
fundamental period (N):
i) x(n) = cos (𝜋𝑛/7)+sin(𝜋𝑛/3)
ii) x(n) = cos (17𝜋𝑛/7)+sin(11𝜋𝑛/5)+cos (7𝜋𝑛/3)
iii) x(n) = cos (19𝜋𝑛) + sin(13𝑛)
iv) x(n) = cos (10𝜋𝑛/3)+2cos(9𝜋𝑛/4) +cos (21𝜋𝑛/11)

𝑥(𝑛)=(1/3)n𝑢(𝑛)
