One-Hour Lesson Plan in Mathematics
Topic: Multiplication
I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the student should be able to:
1. Recall subtraction with regrouping and borrowing.
2. Understand multiplication as repeated addition.
3. Solve multiplication problems (easy to challenging).
4. Apply multiplication in real-life word problems.
III. Procedure (4A’s)
A. Activity (10 minutes – Review & Motivation)
1. Review Subtraction with Borrowing (3 items):
o 52 – 28 = ?
o 91 – 46 = ?
o 73 – 29 = ?
2. Motivation with counters:
o “I give you 3 candies each day for 4 days. How many candies do you get?”
o Student counts: 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 12.
o Teacher says: “This is faster if we write it as 4 × 3 = 12.”
B. Analysis (15 minutes – Discovery & Guided Practice)
1. Show examples with objects/drawings:
o 2 × 3 = 6 (two groups of three)
o 4 × 2 = 8 (four groups of two)
o 3 × 5 = 15 (three groups of five)
2. Compare addition and multiplication:
o 2+2+2+2=8→4×2=8
o 5 + 5 + 5 = 15 → 3 × 5 = 15
C. Abstraction 2 × 4 → “two times four”
3 × 5 → “three times five”
Level 1 – Easy (Facts with small numbers):
1. 2 × 3 = ?
2. 3 × 4 = ?
3. 4 × 5 = ?
Level 2 – Medium (slightly larger numbers):
4. 61 × 21 = ?
5. 70 × 32 = ?
6. 85 × 44 = ?
Level 3 – Challenging (mix & word problem style):
7. 120× 201 = ?
8. 508 × 947= ?
9. 196 × 263 = ?
D. Application (15 minutes – Word Problems)
1. A cat has 4 legs. How many legs do 5 cats have?
2. There are 3 baskets. Each basket has 6 mangoes. How many mangoes are there in all?
3. A chair costs 120 pesos. How much do 4 chairs cost?
4. Ana reads 2 books each week. How many books does she read in 8 weeks?
IV. Evaluation (5 minutes)
Solve independently:
1. 2×7=?
2. 4×3=?
3. 9×5=?
4. A flower has 6 petals. How many petals do 7 flowers have?
