Education (SPED) Content and Pedagogy

My passion for teaching is rooted in the belief that every child has
the potential to succeed, regardless of their learning differences.
Witnessing my students grow and develop their reading skills is
incredibly fulfilling. Each small achievement, whether it’s
mastering a new word or completing a challenging passage, is a
step towards greater independence and confidence for my
students.
Adopting a variety of teaching strategies is essential in a special
education setting. I use a multi-sensory approach to cater to
different learning styles. This includes:
Visual aids: Using charts, graphic organizers, and illustrated
books to help students visualize concepts.
Tactile activities: Incorporating hands-on tasks like letter
tiles and word-building games to engage kinesthetic
learners.
Auditory methods: Reading aloud and using audio books to
support auditory learners and improve listening
comprehension.
I also emphasize the importance of personalized learning plans. By
assessing each student's strengths and challenges, I can tailor
lessons to meet their specific needs and track their progress
effectively.
Teaching reading in special education is a deeply rewarding
vocation. My experiences have taught me the importance of
patience, creativity, and empathy. By maintaining a steadfast
commitment to my students, I aim to empower them with the skills
they need to thrive both in and out of the classroom.

LAC Topic: Advancing Basic Education Curriculum (ABC+) in the
Philippines on Instructional Leadership Training

Participating in the Instructional Leadership Training (ILT) during the
Learning Action Cell (LAC) session provided me with invaluable insights into
the Advancing Basic Education Curriculum (ABC+) in the Philippines. As a
teacher, this experience has broadened my understanding of the essential
components and goals of the ABC+ initiative, which aims to enhance the
quality of basic education in the country.
Before attending the ILT, my understanding of the ABC+ initiative was
primarily based on its objective to improve literacy and numeracy skills
among young learners. I was aware of the challenges faced by the
educational system in the Philippines, such as resource limitations and
diverse learner needs, which the ABC+ seeks to address through targeted
strategies and support.
The ILT session deepened my knowledge of the ABC+ framework and its
emphasis on instructional leadership. I learned about the critical role of
school leaders in driving curriculum implementation and fostering an
environment conducive to learning. The training highlighted several key
components, including:
1. Data-Driven Decision Making: Utilizing student performance data to
inform teaching practices and improve learning outcomes.
2. Collaborative Professional Development: Engaging teachers in
continuous learning and sharing of best practices through LAC
sessions.
3. Community Engagement: Involving parents and community members
in supporting educational initiatives to create a holistic learning
environment.
Reflecting on my experience, I am inspired by the potential impact of the
ABC+ initiative on improving educational outcomes in the Philippines. The
ILT has reinforced the importance of strong instructional leadership and the
need for teachers to be adaptable and proactive in their approach to
curriculum implementation. I am committed to applying the knowledge
gained from the training to my teaching practice, ensuring that my students
benefit from an enriched and supportive learning environment.
