ABSTRACT

Neuromorphic Computing

Neuromorphic computing is an innovative field of study that seeks to replicate the structure
and function of the human brain to create more efficient and adaptive computing systems.
Inspired by biological neural networks, neuromorphic systems utilize spiking neural networks
(SNNs), asynchronous processing, and synaptic plasticity to mimic how neurons and synapses
interact in the brain. These architectures promise a paradigm shift in computing by offering
greater energy efficiency, real-time learning capabilities, and parallel processing, making them
suitable for specialized applications like AI, robotics, sensory processing, and healthcare.

Unlike traditional computing models based on the von Neumann architecture, neuromorphic
systems integrate memory and computation, dramatically reducing latency and energy
consumption. Major advancements in this area include IBM’s TrueNorth, Intel’s Loihi, and the
SpiNNaker project, all designed to handle complex tasks such as machine learning and
autonomous decision-making more effectively than conventional systems.

This presentation will explore the key principles, hardware implementations, and applications
of neuromorphic computing, along with its advantages and challenges. By examining its
potential to revolutionize areas such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and edge computing, we
will also discuss how neuromorphic architectures are paving the way for the next generation
of computing technologies.
