ASSESS: Answer the following questions.

1. What are the levels of language?


The levels of language are Phonetics, Phonology, Morphology, Syntax, Semantics,
and Pragmatics. Phonetics is about sound, how we say words.
Phonology is about the sound system, how sound patterns in language.
Morphology is the study of word parts, like root, prefix, and suffix.
Syntax is how words are put together in a sentence.
Semantics is about the meaning of words and sentences.
Pragmatics is about meaning when used in real life talking, with context.

2. How to analyze each level of language?


We analyze Phonetics by looking at sounds, how to pronounce, like “p” and “b.”
We analyze Phonology by checking sound patterns, how phonemes are used in
words. We analyze Morphology by cutting words into morphemes, like walk + ed.
We analyze Syntax by studying word order, grammar, and sentence structure.
We analyze Semantics by looking at meaning, literal and hidden meaning, also word
connotation. We analyze Pragmatics by seeing context, speaker intention, what
really means not only words.
